    Description

Voltarol 12 Hour Joint Pain Relief Gel – 100g

Voltarol 12 Hour Joint Pain Relief Gel is a topical anti-inflammatory gel used to relieve pain, swelling, and stiffness associated with joint and muscle conditions such as osteoarthritis of the knee and small joints of the hand.

    How It Works

The active ingredient, diclofenac, belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). When applied to the skin, it is absorbed into the underlying tissue where it reduces the production of substances called prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing pain and inflammation at the site of discomfort.

    Directions for Use

Voltarol 12 Hour Gel is suitable for adults and young people aged 14 years and over. Apply a thin layer of gel (approximately 2 g, roughly the size of a 50p coin) to the affected area and gently rub in. Use twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Wash your hands after applying unless the hands are the area being treated. Do not apply to broken, damaged, or infected skin, and avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Do not use for more than 14 days without speaking to a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Diclofenac diethylammonium 1.16% w/w (equivalent to diclofenac sodium 1% w/w)

    Possible Side Effects

    • Skin reactions at the application site, such as redness, itching, or rash
    • Dry or flaky skin at the application site
    • A burning or stinging sensation when applied
    • Rarely, allergic reactions such as swelling, hives, or difficulty breathing
    • Rarely, systemic effects similar to those of oral NSAIDs (e.g. stomach discomfort) if large amounts are absorbed

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to diclofenac, aspirin, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDs
    • People who have previously had an allergic reaction (such as asthma, rhinitis, or urticaria) triggered by aspirin or any other NSAID
    • Children under 14 years of age
    • People with active or history of stomach ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding
    • Women in the last three months (third trimester) of pregnancy
    • People with severe heart, kidney, or liver problems

    Interactions

Because Voltarol 12 Hour Gel is applied to the skin, the risk of drug interactions is lower than with oral NSAIDs; however, caution is still advised if you are using other topical or oral NSAIDs, anticoagulants (blood thinners such as warfarin), or medicines that affect the kidneys. The amount of diclofenac absorbed through the skin is small, but interactions can still occur, particularly if the gel is applied to large areas of the body. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Voltarol 12 Hour Gel should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby or cause complications during delivery. Use during the first and second trimesters should be avoided unless advised by a doctor. Diclofenac may pass into breast milk in small amounts; therefore, breastfeeding mothers should avoid applying the gel to large areas of skin or for prolonged periods. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between topical Voltarol 12 Hour Gel and alcohol when the gel is used as directed. However, if you regularly drink alcohol and are also taking oral medicines, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist for personalised advice.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Voltarol 12 Hour Gel is applied to the skin and is not known to cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It is considered safe to drive while using this medicine as directed.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
