What is the Wegovy® pill?
The Wegovy® pill is a once-daily tablet containing semaglutide — the same active ingredient as the Wegovy® injection. It supports weight management alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and it is available through PillSorted’s online weight loss consultation. The tablet was approved by the MHRA in June 2026 as the UK’s first GLP-1 tablet for weight loss.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist — it mimics a natural hormone your gut releases when you eat. It reduces appetite and cravings, slows digestion so you feel fuller for longer, and helps manage blood sugar levels. The tablet works the same way as the weekly injection; the difference is simply how you take it.
How do I take the Wegovy pill?
Take one tablet once a day on an empty stomach when you wake up, with a small sip of water (up to 120 ml). Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medicines. Do not crush, cut, chew, or dissolve the tablet. If you miss a dose, skip it and take your next dose the following day.
How dosing works
Your prescriber will start you on the 1.5 mg once-daily dose and gradually increase it every 30 days until you reach your maintenance dose. They may keep you on a dose for longer to give your body more time to adjust.

Switching from an injection to the pill
If you’re already taking a weekly injection like Wegovy® or Mounjaro®, switching to the daily tablet is possible in many cases. The doses don’t map one-to-one, so your prescriber will confirm the right starting dose for you based on your current treatment and how you’ve responded to it.
If you’re moving from a higher Mounjaro dose, you may notice appetite suppression feels less strong at first — that’s expected, and your prescriber will guide you through it.
How much does the Wegovy pill cost?

This is a prescription-only medicine: you’ll complete an online consultation and a prescriber will confirm the treatment is right for you before it can be supplied. Payment is taken when you order; if the prescriber finds the treatment isn’t suitable for you, you receive a full refund.

Wegovy pill vs Mounjaro: Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, a dual-acting GIP + GLP-1 medication, and is only available as a weekly injection. Your prescriber can advise which is more appropriate for you — our injectable treatments guide covers Mounjaro in detail.
Wegovy pill vs Rybelsus: Rybelsus is also oral semaglutide, but it is licensed for type 2 diabetes at lower doses — it is not a weight loss treatment. The Wegovy pill is the version licensed for weight management.
Wegovy pill vs orlistat (Alli®/Orlos®): Orlistat works differently — it reduces the amount of fat your body absorbs from food rather than acting on appetite, and is available without a prescription at a lower price point.

In the OASIS 4 clinical trial, people who took the 25 mg dose as prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and exercise lost an average of 16.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks, and around one in three lost 20% or more. Appetite effects can begin in the first weeks, but the full treatment effect is usually seen once you reach your maintenance dose, which takes around three months of gradual dose increases.
Adults with a BMI over 30, or over 27 with a weight-related health issue such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or high cholesterol. It is not approved for people under 18, and it is not suitable if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding, have a known allergy to semaglutide, a history of pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal disease, or severe kidney problems. A prescriber checks all of this during your consultation.

NHS availability of oral semaglutide for weight loss is not confirmed. This is a private service.
Like the injections, the most common side effects are digestive — nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation — and they usually ease as your body adjusts to each dose. If you notice signs of an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, rash, or swelling of the face, lips or tongue, get immediate medical help. Always read the patient information leaflet.
