Description
Fenbid Gel 5% – 100g
Fenbid Gel 5% is a topical anti-inflammatory gel containing ibuprofen, used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation associated with conditions such as backache, rheumatic pain, muscular aches, sprains, and strains.
⸻
How It Works
Fenbid Gel contains ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). When applied to the skin, ibuprofen is absorbed through the skin directly into the affected area, where it works by blocking the production of prostaglandins — chemicals in the body that cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. Because it is applied to the skin rather than taken by mouth, less ibuprofen enters the bloodstream, which may reduce the risk of some side effects associated with oral ibuprofen.
⸻
Directions for Use
For adults and children aged 14 years and over: apply a small amount of gel (typically 4–10 cm of gel, depending on the size of the affected area) to the affected area up to 3 times a day. Gently massage the gel into the skin and wash your hands thoroughly after use. Do not apply to broken, damaged, or infected skin, and avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use for more than 2 weeks without consulting a doctor. This product is not suitable for children under 14 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Ibuprofen 5% w/w (5 g per 100 g of gel)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Skin redness, itching, or rash at the site of application
• Dry or peeling skin at the application site
• Mild burning or stinging sensation when applied
• Rarely, an allergic skin reaction (such as hives, blistering, or swelling)
• In rare cases, absorption through the skin may cause systemic effects similar to oral NSAIDs (e.g., stomach upset)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• People who are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin, or any other NSAID
• People who have previously experienced asthma, urticaria (hives), or allergic reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
• Children under 14 years of age
• People with broken, infected, or damaged skin in the area to be treated
• People in the third trimester of pregnancy (28 weeks or more)
• Those with a known sensitivity to any of the other ingredients in the gel
⸻
Interactions
Although Fenbid Gel is applied topically, small amounts of ibuprofen may be absorbed into the bloodstream and could potentially interact with certain medicines, including anticoagulants (such as warfarin), other NSAIDs, and some blood pressure medications. The risk of interactions is generally much lower than with oral ibuprofen, but caution is advised. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Fenbid Gel should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy (28 weeks onwards), as it may harm the unborn baby. Use during the first and second trimesters should be avoided unless advised by a doctor. It is not recommended for use whilst breastfeeding without medical advice, as small amounts of ibuprofen may pass into breast milk. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known direct interaction between topical Fenbid Gel and alcohol. However, if you regularly drink alcohol and have any underlying health conditions, it is always advisable to speak to your PillSorted pharmacist before using any NSAID-containing product.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Fenbid Gel is applied to the skin and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience any unusual symptoms after use that affect your alertness or concentration, seek advice from your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor.
⸻
Storage
