Description
Cystopurin 3g Granules Oral Solution Cystitis – 6 Sachets
Cystopurin 3g Granules is a treatment designed to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms of cystitis in adults and children aged 6 and over. Each sachet contains potassium citrate, which helps to reduce the burning and stinging sensation when passing urine.
⸻
How It Works
Cystitis often causes urine to become more acidic, which leads to that familiar burning or stinging feeling when you urinate. Potassium citrate works by making the urine less acidic (more alkaline), which soothes the lining of the bladder and urinary tract and helps to ease discomfort. It does not treat the underlying infection itself, so if your symptoms do not improve within 48 hours, you should see a doctor.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 6 and over: dissolve the contents of one sachet in a full glass of water (approximately 200ml) and drink immediately. This can be taken up to three times a day for a maximum of two days. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Potassium citrate 3g per sachet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, Cystopurin can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Possible side effects include:
• Nausea or feeling sick
• Stomach discomfort or mild abdominal pain
• Diarrhoea
• High levels of potassium in the blood (hyperkalaemia) — particularly with prolonged use or in those with kidney problems
• Mild laxative effect
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not take Cystopurin if you:
• Are allergic to potassium citrate or any other ingredients in this product
• Have kidney disease or reduced kidney function
• Have high levels of potassium in your blood (hyperkalaemia)
• Are taking potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g. spironolactone or amiloride)
• Have a urinary tract infection caused by bacteria that produce ammonia
• Are under 6 years of age
⸻
Interactions
Potassium citrate may interact with certain medicines. This includes potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and some heart medications that can increase potassium levels in the blood. Taking Cystopurin alongside these medicines may lead to dangerously high potassium levels. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited safety data on the use of potassium citrate during pregnancy or breastfeeding. As a precaution, this product should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if considered necessary and under medical supervision. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There are no known interactions between Cystopurin and alcohol. However, alcohol can irritate the bladder and may worsen cystitis symptoms, so it is advisable to avoid or limit alcohol consumption while you are experiencing symptoms and during treatment.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Cystopurin is not known to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, the underlying symptoms of cystitis may cause discomfort that could be distracting. If you feel unwell, take care when driving or using machinery.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the sachets in their original packaging until use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
