What is amlodipine?
Amlodipine is a calcium-channel blocker used to lower high blood pressure and to prevent angina (chest pain). It relaxes and widens your blood vessels.
Brands and strengths
Amlodipine is the name of the active ingredient. In the UK it is sold as generic amlodipine and under brand names including Istin and Amlostin — all contain the same active ingredient and work the same way. Common strengths:

How to take amlodipine
Usually taken once a day, at the same time each day, with or without food. Keep taking it even if you feel well — high blood pressure often has no symptoms. Always follow your prescriber’s instructions (BNF).
Side effects
