Description
Zovirax Cold Sore Cream (Pump) – 2g
Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is a topical antiviral treatment used to treat cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus. It is available in a convenient pump dispenser and is most effective when applied at the very first signs of a cold sore, such as tingling, itching, or redness.
⸻
How It Works
The active ingredient, aciclovir, works by stopping the herpes simplex virus from reproducing and spreading. It does this by blocking a key enzyme the virus needs to copy itself, which helps to shorten the duration of the cold sore and reduce symptoms such as pain, itching, and swelling.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Apply a small amount of cream to the affected area five times a day, approximately every four hours (avoiding night-time applications). Start treatment as soon as you notice the first signs of a cold sore and continue for five days. If the cold sore has not healed after five days, treatment can be continued for a further five days. Do not apply inside the mouth or near the eyes. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻

⸻
Interactions
Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is applied topically and is not significantly absorbed into the bloodstream, so interactions with other medicines are considered unlikely. However, you should avoid using other creams or ointments on the same area at the same time unless advised by a healthcare professional. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Only very small amounts of aciclovir are absorbed through the skin when used as a topical cream, making it unlikely to pose a significant risk during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, as a precaution, use should be considered carefully. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Zovirax Cold Sore Cream and alcohol. As this medicine is applied to the skin and is not taken orally, alcohol consumption is not expected to affect how the cream works.
