    Senna Tablets – 20 Pack

Senna Tablets are a gentle, effective remedy used to relieve occasional constipation. Each tablet contains senna, a natural plant-derived ingredient that helps restore normal bowel movements.

    How It Works

Senna is a stimulant laxative derived from the leaves and pods of the Cassia senna plant. It works by stimulating the muscles in the wall of the bowel to contract, helping to move stools along and encouraging a bowel movement — usually within 8 to 12 hours of taking the tablet, making it ideal to take at bedtime for relief the following morning.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 and over: take 2 tablets at bedtime. Do not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours. Senna tablets are not recommended for children under 12 years unless directed by a doctor. Do not use for more than 5 consecutive days without seeking medical advice, as prolonged use of laxatives is not recommended. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Senna fruit dry extract (equivalent to 7.5 mg sennosides, calculated as sennoside B) per tablet

    Possible Side Effects

    • Abdominal cramps or discomfort
    • Diarrhoea
    • Nausea
    • Discolouration of urine (may appear yellow-brown or pinkish) — this is harmless
    • Skin reactions such as rash (uncommon)
    • With prolonged use: electrolyte imbalance and dependence on laxatives

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Children under 12 years of age
    • People with a suspected or known bowel obstruction (blockage in the gut)
    • Those with inflammatory bowel conditions such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
    • People with undiagnosed abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting
    • Those with a known allergy to senna or any other ingredient in the tablet
    • People with severe dehydration or electrolyte imbalances

    Interactions

Senna may reduce the absorption of some medicines if taken at the same time. If you are taking heart medicines (such as digoxin) or diuretics (water tablets), senna may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance — particularly low potassium levels. Prolonged use alongside other laxatives may also increase this risk. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Senna is generally not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. It should be used with caution during the second and third trimesters, and only if dietary and lifestyle measures have not helped. Small amounts of senna’s active compounds may pass into breast milk, so use during breastfeeding should be avoided unless advised by a healthcare professional. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between senna and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation and increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance when taking a stimulant laxative. It is advisable to stay well hydrated whilst using senna tablets.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Senna tablets are not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. This medicine does not cause drowsiness. However, if you experience significant abdominal discomfort, use your judgement before driving.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
