Description
Robitussin Dry Cough Medicine – 250ml
Robitussin Dry Cough Medicine is a cough syrup used to relieve dry, tickly, and irritating coughs. It is suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over.
⸻
How It Works
The active ingredient, dextromethorphan hydrobromide, works by acting on the cough centre in the brain to suppress the urge to cough. This helps to calm a dry, persistent cough and provides soothing relief without treating an underlying infection.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over should take 10 ml (two 5 ml spoonfuls) up to four times a day. Doses should be spaced at least four hours apart. Do not exceed four doses in 24 hours. This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 7.5 mg per 5 ml
⸻

• People taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or who have taken them within the last 14 days
• People with severe liver or kidney problems

⸻
Interactions
Dextromethorphan can interact with MAOIs, certain antidepressants (including SSRIs and SNRIs), and some antipsychotic medicines, which may cause a serious reaction. It may also interact with other medicines that cause drowsiness, including sedatives and sleeping tablets. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of dextromethorphan during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established, and this medicine is generally not recommended during these periods. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking Robitussin Dry Cough Medicine, as alcohol can increase the sedative effects of dextromethorphan and may cause enhanced drowsiness or dizziness.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Robitussin Dry Cough Medicine may cause drowsiness or dizziness in some people. If you are affected, do not drive, cycle, or operate heavy machinery until you feel completely alert again.
