Description
Paramol – 32 Tablets
Paramol Tablets are a pain relief medicine containing two active ingredients — paracetamol and dihydrocodeine — used to relieve mild to moderate pain, including headaches, migraines, toothache, muscular aches, and period pain.
⸻
How It Works
Paramol contains two ingredients that work together to relieve pain. Paracetamol works by blocking the signals that tell your brain you are in pain and helps to reduce fever. Dihydrocodeine is a mild opioid that acts on the central nervous system to provide additional pain relief when paracetamol alone may not be enough.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and young people aged 12 years and over: take 1 to 2 tablets up to every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in any 24-hour period. Do not give to children under 12 years of age. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not use for more than 3 days without speaking to a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Paracetamol 500 mg per tablet
• Dihydrocodeine tartrate 7.46 mg per tablet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Nausea or feeling sick
• Constipation
• Dizziness or light-headedness
• Drowsiness or sedation
• Headache
• Skin rash or itching
• Difficulty breathing (rare but serious — seek immediate medical help)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 12 years of age
• Anyone allergic to paracetamol, dihydrocodeine, or any other ingredient in the tablets
• People with severe liver or kidney disease
• People with respiratory depression (slowed or difficult breathing)
• Anyone with head injuries or raised intracranial pressure
• People with a condition called phaeochromocytoma
• Those who are dependent on opioid medicines
• People with acute alcoholism
⸻
Interactions
Paramol can interact with a number of medicines, including other medicines containing paracetamol (risk of overdose), sedatives, sleeping tablets, antidepressants (including MAOIs), anticoagulants such as warfarin, medicines for epilepsy, and metoclopramide or domperidone. Taking other opioid-containing medicines alongside Paramol may increase the risk of side effects. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Paramol is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding because dihydrocodeine can pass to the baby and cause breathing difficulties. Paracetamol alone is generally considered safer during pregnancy, but you should always seek guidance before taking any medicine. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Paramol. Alcohol can increase the sedative effects of dihydrocodeine, making drowsiness and dizziness worse. Alcohol can also increase the risk of liver damage when taken alongside paracetamol, particularly if consumed in large amounts.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Paramol can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and affect your ability to concentrate. You should not drive or operate heavy machinery if you feel affected by this medicine. The dihydrocodeine component in particular may impair your reactions and judgement. If in doubt, do not drive.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
