Description
Imodium Instants – 12 Orodispersible Tablets
Imodium Instants are melt-in-the-mouth tablets used to relieve short-term diarrhoea and diarrhoea associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). They are convenient to take as they dissolve on the tongue without the need for water.
⸻
How It Works
The active ingredient, loperamide hydrochloride, works by slowing down the movements of the bowel wall. This helps reduce the speed at which contents pass through the gut, allowing more water and salts to be absorbed and resulting in firmer, less frequent stools.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: take 2 tablets (4 mg) initially after the first loose stool, then 1 tablet (2 mg) after each subsequent loose stool. Do not take more than 4 tablets (8 mg) in 24 hours for IBS-related diarrhoea, or more than 8 tablets (16 mg) in 24 hours for acute diarrhoea. Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to dissolve — no water is needed. Do not use for more than 48 hours for acute diarrhoea without seeking medical advice, or more than 2 weeks for IBS. This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

• People with acute ulcerative colitis or antibiotic-associated colitis (including Clostridioides difficile infection)
• Anyone whose diarrhoea is accompanied by blood in their stools or a high fever
• People with conditions where slowing of gut movement should be avoided (e.g. ileus, megacolon)
⸻
Interactions
Loperamide may interact with certain medicines including ritonavir, quinidine, and other medicines that affect heart rhythm (QT-prolonging drugs). Some medicines used to treat fungal infections or HIV may increase the levels of loperamide in the body. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The use of loperamide during pregnancy is not recommended, particularly during the first trimester, unless clearly necessary. Loperamide may pass into breast milk in small amounts, so it is generally advised to avoid use while breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no specific contraindication between loperamide and alcohol; however, alcohol can aggravate symptoms of diarrhoea and dehydration. It is advisable to avoid or limit alcohol consumption while experiencing diarrhoea to support recovery.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Imodium Instants may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. If you are affected, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel well enough to do so safely.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original blister packaging until required. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
