⸻
How It Works
Ibuprofen belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the production of prostaglandins — natural chemicals in the body that cause pain, swelling, and fever — helping to reduce discomfort and inflammation at the source.
⸻
Directions for Use
These tablets are for adults and young people aged 12 years and over. The usual dose is one 400mg tablet taken up to three times a day. Doses should be spaced at least four to six hours apart, and you should not take more than three tablets (1,200mg) in any 24-hour period. Always take ibuprofen with or after food or milk to help protect the stomach. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

Interactions
Ibuprofen may interact with a number of medicines, including blood thinners (such as warfarin), aspirin, other NSAIDs, certain blood pressure medicines (such as ACE inhibitors and diuretics), lithium, methotrexate, and some antidepressants. Taking ibuprofen alongside these medicines may increase the risk of side effects or reduce their effectiveness. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Ibuprofen should not be taken during the third trimester of pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby. Use during the first and second trimesters is not recommended unless considered essential by a doctor. Ibuprofen is generally considered low risk in small amounts during breastfeeding, but medical advice should always be sought first. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
Drinking alcohol while taking ibuprofen may increase the risk of stomach irritation and gastrointestinal bleeding. It is advisable to avoid or limit alcohol consumption during treatment with ibuprofen.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Ibuprofen at the recommended doses is not generally expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience dizziness or visual disturbances as a side effect, you should not drive or use machinery until these symptoms have resolved.
