    Description

    Dymista Nasal Spray Suspension

Dymista Nasal Spray Suspension is a combination nasal spray used to relieve the symptoms of moderate to severe seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis (hay fever and perennial allergic rhinitis) in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over. It helps to ease a blocked, runny, or itchy nose, as well as sneezing caused by allergies.

    How It Works

Dymista contains two active ingredients that work together to tackle allergy symptoms. Azelastine hydrochloride is an antihistamine that blocks histamine, the chemical your body releases during an allergic reaction, which helps reduce itching, sneezing, and a runny nose. Fluticasone propionate is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the lining of the nose, helping to relieve congestion and other nasal symptoms.

    Directions for Use

The recommended dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over is one spray into each nostril twice daily (once in the morning and once in the evening). Shake the bottle gently before use and prime the pump if using for the first time or after a period of non-use. Dymista is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Azelastine hydrochloride 137 micrograms per spray
    • Fluticasone propionate 50 micrograms per spray

    Possible Side Effects

    • Unpleasant taste in the mouth (dysgeusia)
    • Nosebleeds
    • Nasal discomfort, such as burning or irritation inside the nose
    • Headache
    • Drowsiness or sedation
    • Sneezing immediately after use

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to azelastine hydrochloride, fluticasone propionate, or any other ingredient in this product
    • Children under 12 years of age
    • People who have had recent nasal surgery or injury (until the nose has healed)
    • People currently taking certain antifungal or HIV medicines that strongly inhibit the enzyme CYP3A4 (e.g., ritonavir, ketoconazole) — seek advice before use

    Interactions

Dymista may interact with medicines that cause drowsiness, including sleeping tablets, sedatives, and some anxiety medicines, potentially increasing sedation. Strong inhibitors of the liver enzyme CYP3A4 — such as ritonavir (used for HIV) and ketoconazole (an antifungal) — can increase the levels of fluticasone propionate in your body and should be avoided if possible. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of Dymista during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. As a precaution, it is generally recommended to avoid use during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester, unless advised by a doctor. It is not known whether the ingredients pass into breast milk in significant amounts. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

Alcohol may increase the sedative effects of the antihistamine component (azelastine) in Dymista, making you feel more drowsy than usual. It is advisable to avoid or limit alcohol consumption while using this nasal spray, particularly if you notice that it makes you feel sleepy.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Dymista can cause drowsiness or sedation in some people due to its antihistamine ingredient, azelastine. If you feel drowsy after using this spray, do not drive, cycle, or operate machinery. Be especially cautious if you are also consuming alcohol or taking other medicines that cause sedation.

    Storage

Store Dymista Nasal Spray below 25°C, in an upright position, and away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Once opened, use within 6 months. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
