    Description

    Difflam Spray – 30ml

Difflam Spray is a medicated throat and mouth spray used to relieve pain and inflammation caused by sore throats, mouth ulcers, sore gums, a sore tongue, or discomfort from teeth and dentures. It contains benzydamine hydrochloride, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with local anaesthetic properties.

    How It Works

Benzydamine hydrochloride works by blocking the chemicals in the body that cause pain and inflammation at the site where it is applied. When sprayed directly onto the affected area in the mouth or throat, it numbs the area and reduces swelling, providing fast, targeted relief without being absorbed significantly into the bloodstream.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 6 years and over: spray 4–8 puffs onto the affected area every 1.5 to 3 hours as needed. For children aged 6–12 years, use 4 puffs per dose. Each puff delivers approximately 0.17 ml of the spray. Do not exceed the recommended number of sprays per dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Benzydamine hydrochloride 0.15% w/v (1.5 mg per ml)

    Possible Side Effects

    • Numbness or a stinging sensation in the mouth or throat
    • Dry mouth
    • Nausea
    • Hypersensitivity reactions (such as skin rash or itching)
    • Photosensitisation (increased sensitivity to sunlight) — rare
    • Bronchospasm (wheezing or difficulty breathing) — rare

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to benzydamine hydrochloride or any other ingredient in the spray
    • People who are allergic to aspirin or other NSAIDs
    • Children under 6 years of age
    • People who have previously had an allergic reaction (such as asthma, hives, or swelling) after taking an NSAID

    Interactions

Difflam Spray is applied topically and has minimal systemic absorption, so interactions with other medicines are unlikely. However, if you are taking other anti-inflammatory medicines or have been advised to avoid NSAIDs, check with a healthcare professional before use. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of Difflam Spray during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. As with all NSAIDs, caution is advised, particularly during the third trimester of pregnancy. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known significant interaction between Difflam Spray and alcohol, as the spray acts locally in the mouth and throat with minimal systemic absorption. However, alcohol may irritate an already sore throat or mouth, so it is best avoided while symptoms are present.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Difflam Spray is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. The spray acts locally and is not significantly absorbed into the bloodstream, so it is unlikely to cause drowsiness or impaired coordination.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
