    Description

CosmoCol Orange Lemon & Lime – 30 Sachets

CosmoCol Orange Lemon & Lime is a laxative used to relieve constipation. Each sachet contains a balanced combination of active ingredients that work together to soften stools and restore regular bowel movements.

    How It Works

CosmoCol contains macrogol 3350, an osmotic laxative that works by drawing water into the bowel from the surrounding tissues. This softens and bulks up stools, making them easier to pass. The additional salts (sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and potassium chloride) help to replace essential electrolytes and maintain the body’s natural balance.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: dissolve the contents of 1 to 3 sachets in 125 ml of water per sachet and drink the solution. The usual starting dose is 1 to 3 sachets per day, taken in divided doses. For chronic constipation, adjust the dose to produce regular, comfortable stools — the minimum effective dose should be used. CosmoCol is not recommended for children under 12 years unless directed by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    Each sachet contains:
    • Macrogol 3350 — 13.125 g
    • Sodium chloride — 350.7 mg
    • Sodium bicarbonate — 178.5 mg
    • Potassium chloride — 46.6 mg

    Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, CosmoCol can cause side effects in some people. Common side effects may include:
    • Bloating or flatulence (wind)
    • Abdominal pain or cramps
    • Nausea
    • Diarrhoea
    • Headache
    • Mild skin rash or itching (allergic reaction — uncommon)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not take CosmoCol if you:
    • Are allergic to macrogol 3350 or any of the other ingredients
    • Have a perforated bowel or risk of bowel perforation
    • Have a blocked or obstructed bowel (intestinal obstruction or ileus)
    • Have a condition that causes sudden, severe abdominal pain (toxic megacolon)
    • Have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (unless directed by a doctor)
    • Are under 12 years of age (without medical supervision)

    Interactions

CosmoCol may affect the absorption of other medicines taken by mouth at the same time, as it increases the movement of water through the gut. It is advisable to take other oral medicines at a different time to CosmoCol — ideally at least 2 hours apart. There are no known significant food interactions. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

CosmoCol is generally considered suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as macrogol 3350 is not significantly absorbed from the gut. However, individual circumstances vary and professional guidance is always recommended. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between CosmoCol and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation. It is advisable to drink plenty of water and limit alcohol intake while treating constipation.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

CosmoCol does not cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You may continue to drive and carry out skilled tasks as normal whilst taking this medicine.

    Storage

Store CosmoCol below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Once a sachet has been dissolved in water, the solution should be used within 6 hours and kept in the refrigerator. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
