    Description

    Co-Codamol 8mg/500mg Effervescent – 32 Tablets

Co-Codamol 8mg/500mg Effervescent Tablets are used for the short-term relief of mild to moderate pain, including headaches, migraines, toothache, and muscular pain. Each tablet contains two active ingredients — paracetamol and codeine phosphate — which work together to provide effective pain relief.

    How It Works

Paracetamol works by blocking chemical signals in the brain that cause pain and fever. Codeine phosphate is a mild opioid that works in the central nervous system to reduce the sensation of pain. Together, these two ingredients provide a combined effect that is stronger than paracetamol alone.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 16 and over: dissolve 2 tablets in a glass of water and drink the solution every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in any 24-hour period. Do not use for more than 3 days without speaking to a doctor. This medicine is not suitable for children under 16 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Codeine phosphate 8mg per tablet
    • Paracetamol 500mg per tablet

    Possible Side Effects

    • Constipation
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Drowsiness or dizziness
    • Headache
    • Stomach upset
    • Allergic skin reactions (rash or itching)

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Children under 16 years of age
    • People allergic to paracetamol, codeine, or any other ingredient in the tablet
    • People with liver or kidney disease
    • People who are known ultra-rapid metabolisers of codeine
    • Breastfeeding mothers
    • People with respiratory depression or breathing difficulties
    • Anyone already taking other medicines containing paracetamol or opioids

    Interactions

Co-codamol can interact with several medicines, including other painkillers containing paracetamol or opioids, sedatives, sleeping tablets, antidepressants (particularly MAOIs), and medicines used to treat epilepsy. Taking other paracetamol-containing products at the same time can lead to accidental overdose. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Co-codamol is not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, as codeine can harm the unborn baby and cause withdrawal symptoms in newborns. Codeine must not be used while breastfeeding, as it can pass into breast milk and cause serious harm to the baby. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

You should avoid drinking alcohol while taking co-codamol. Alcohol increases the sedative effects of codeine and can also increase the risk of liver damage associated with paracetamol, particularly at higher doses or with regular use.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Co-codamol can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired concentration, all of which may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery safely. Do not drive or use machinery if you feel drowsy or affected after taking this medicine. It is an offence to drive while impaired by this medicine.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
