Description
Co-Codamol 8mg/500mg – 32 Tablets
Co-Codamol 8mg/500mg tablets are a combined painkiller used for the short-term relief of acute moderate pain, such as headaches, migraine, toothache, neuralgia, period pain, and rheumatic pains, particularly when paracetamol or ibuprofen alone have not provided enough relief.
⸻
How It Works
Co-Codamol contains two active ingredients that work together to relieve pain. Paracetamol reduces pain signals in the brain, while codeine phosphate is a mild opioid that acts on pain receptors in the nervous system to further reduce the sensation of pain. Together, they provide more effective pain relief than either ingredient alone.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and young people aged 18 years and over: take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in any 24-hour period. Leave at least 4 hours between doses. Do not take for longer than 3 days without speaking to a doctor. Co-Codamol is not suitable for children or young people under 18 years of age. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children and young people under 18 years of age
• Anyone allergic to codeine, paracetamol, or any other ingredient in this product
• People who know they are ultra-rapid metabolisers of codeine (a genetic variation affecting how codeine is processed)
• Breastfeeding mothers
• People with severe liver or kidney disease
• Those with breathing difficulties or respiratory depression
• People with a history of substance misuse or addiction to opioids
• Anyone currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or who has taken them in the past 14 days
⸻
Interactions
Co-Codamol may interact with other medicines including other products containing paracetamol, sedatives, sleeping tablets, antidepressants (particularly MAOIs and tricyclics), anti-anxiety medicines, antihistamines, and medicines used for epilepsy. Taking other opioid-containing medicines at the same time can increase the risk of side effects including serious breathing problems. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Co-Codamol is not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, as codeine can cause breathing difficulties in newborns. Codeine must not be used whilst breastfeeding, as it passes into breast milk and can be harmful to the baby. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking Co-Codamol. Alcohol can increase the sedative effects of codeine, leading to excessive drowsiness and increasing the risk of serious side effects. Alcohol also increases the risk of liver damage when taken with paracetamol.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Co-Codamol can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision, all of which may impair your ability to drive or operate machinery safely. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel affected. Codeine may also be detected in drug driving roadside tests — it is illegal to drive if your ability is impaired.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep in the original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
