Buscopan IBS Relief tablets are designed to relieve the painful cramps, bloating, and discomfort associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Each tablet contains hyoscine butylbromide, an antispasmodic medicine that helps to ease the spasms in your gut that cause IBS symptoms.

How It Works

Hyoscine butylbromide works by relaxing the smooth muscle in the walls of the gut, reducing the involuntary spasms that cause cramping and discomfort. By targeting these muscle contractions directly in the gastrointestinal tract, it provides focused relief without causing widespread drowsiness or other systemic effects.

Directions for Use

Adults and young people aged 12 years and over should take 1 tablet three times a day when experiencing IBS symptoms. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Buscopan IBS Relief is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Possible Side Effects

• Dry mouth
• Increased heart rate (palpitations)
• Blurred vision

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

• Children under 12 years of age
• People with a known allergy to hyoscine butylbromide or any other ingredient in the tablet
• People with myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness condition)
• People with an enlarged prostate or difficulty passing urine
• People with a rare condition called paralytic ileus (bowel obstruction)
• People with a condition called megacolon (an enlarged bowel)

Interactions

Hyoscine butylbromide may interact with other anticholinergic medicines (such as certain antihistamines, antidepressants, and bladder medicines), potentially increasing side effects such as dry mouth and difficulty urinating. It may also reduce the effects of medicines that promote gut movement, such as metoclopramide. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

There is limited data on the use of hyoscine butylbromide during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and it should only be used if recommended by a healthcare professional. Small amounts may pass into breast milk. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Alcohol

There is no specific interaction between Buscopan IBS Relief and alcohol. However, as alcohol can irritate the gut and worsen IBS symptoms, it is advisable to limit alcohol intake whilst managing an IBS flare-up.

Driving and Operating Machinery

Buscopan IBS Relief may occasionally cause blurred vision or dizziness in some people. If you are affected, you should not drive or operate machinery until these effects have passed. Most people are not affected and can drive normally whilst taking this medicine.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
