Description
Anadin Extra – 16 Caplets
Anadin Extra caplets are a triple-action pain relief medicine used to treat mild to moderate pain, including headaches, migraines, toothache, period pain, and muscular aches. Each caplet contains a combination of aspirin, paracetamol, and caffeine to deliver fast and effective relief.
⸻
How It Works
Anadin Extra works through a combination of three active ingredients. Aspirin and paracetamol both help to reduce pain and lower fever by blocking the signals that tell your brain you are in pain. Caffeine acts as an enhancer, helping the other two ingredients to work more quickly and effectively, so you feel relief sooner.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and young people aged 16 and over should take 2 caplets with water, up to 4 times a day if needed. Leave at least 4 hours between doses and do not take more than 8 caplets in 24 hours. This medicine is not suitable for children under 16 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Aspirin 267 mg per caplet
• Paracetamol 133 mg per caplet
• Caffeine 40 mg per caplet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, Anadin Extra can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them:
• Stomach upset, nausea, or indigestion
• Heartburn or stomach pain
• Increased risk of bleeding due to the aspirin content
• Allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching
• Difficulty sleeping or feeling jittery (due to caffeine)
• Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) — a sign you may be taking too much aspirin
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not take Anadin Extra if you:
• Are under 16 years of age
• Are allergic to aspirin, paracetamol, caffeine, or any other ingredient in this product
• Have a stomach ulcer or a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding
• Have severe kidney or liver disease
• Have haemophilia or another bleeding disorder
• Are taking anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medicines such as warfarin
• Are already taking other medicines containing aspirin or paracetamol
• Are in the last trimester of pregnancy
⸻
Interactions
Anadin Extra may interact with a number of medicines, including blood thinners (such as warfarin), anti-inflammatory medicines (such as ibuprofen), methotrexate, certain antidepressants, and other medicines containing paracetamol or aspirin. Caffeine can also interact with some medicines and may increase the effect of certain stimulants. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Anadin Extra is not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the last trimester, as aspirin can affect your baby and cause complications during labour. The aspirin content also means this medicine should be used with caution if you are breastfeeding, as aspirin passes into breast milk. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol while taking Anadin Extra. Alcohol combined with aspirin increases the risk of stomach irritation and gastrointestinal bleeding. It may also increase the risk of liver damage when taken alongside paracetamol, even at the doses found in this product.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Anadin Extra does not generally cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you feel unwell or experience any unusual effects after taking this medicine, you should not drive or operate machinery until you feel better.
⸻
Storage
Store Anadin Extra below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
