Nurofen Plus (12.8mg/200mg) – 24 Tablets
Nurofen Plus tablets provide dual-action pain relief, combining ibuprofen and codeine phosphate to treat moderate pain that has not responded to ibuprofen or paracetamol alone. They are suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over for conditions such as headache, dental pain, period pain, neuralgia, rheumatic pain, and muscular aches.
⸻
How It Works
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the production of prostaglandins — chemicals in the body that cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. Codeine phosphate is an opioid painkiller that acts on pain receptors in the brain and nervous system to reduce the perception of pain. Together, these two ingredients provide more effective relief for moderate pain than either ingredient could achieve on its own.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 and over: take 1–2 tablets up to three times a day as needed, leaving at least 4 hours between doses. Do not take more than 6 tablets in any 24-hour period. Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water, preferably with food or milk to reduce the chance of stomach upset. Do not use for more than 3 days without seeking medical advice. This medicine is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

⸻
Interactions
Nurofen Plus may interact with several medicines, including anticoagulants (such as warfarin), other NSAIDs or aspirin, antidepressants (including SSRIs and MAOIs), lithium, methotrexate, diuretics, antihypertensives, and other opioid-containing medicines. Combining codeine with medicines that cause sedation — such as sleeping tablets, anxiolytics, or antihistamines — may increase the risk of drowsiness. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Nurofen Plus should not be taken during the third trimester of pregnancy, as ibuprofen may harm the unborn baby or cause complications during labour. Use during the first and second trimesters should be avoided unless considered essential by a doctor. Codeine must not be used by breastfeeding mothers, as it can pass into breast milk and cause serious harm to the baby. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol while taking Nurofen Plus. Alcohol combined with ibuprofen increases the risk of stomach irritation and gastrointestinal bleeding. Alcohol combined with codeine increases the sedative effects, which can lead to excessive drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired judgement.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Nurofen Plus contains codeine, which can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired concentration — particularly when you first start taking it or when taking higher doses. You should not drive, operate heavy machinery, or perform tasks that require full alertness until you know how this medicine affects you. The risk of sedation is increased if you also drink alcohol or take other medicines that cause drowsiness.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
