What is bisoprolol?
Bisoprolol is a beta-blocker used for high blood pressure, angina, heart failure and some irregular heart rhythms. It slows the heart and eases its workload.
Brands and strengths
Bisoprolol is the name of the active ingredient. In the UK it is sold as generic bisoprolol and under brand names including Cardicor, Emcor and Monocor — all contain the same active ingredient and work the same way. Common strengths:

How to take bisoprolol
Usually taken once a day in the morning. Do not stop suddenly — stopping abruptly can be harmful; your prescriber will reduce it gradually if needed. Always follow your prescriber’s instructions (BNF).
Side effects
