Description
Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Spray Blackcurrant – 15ml
Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Spray is a fast-acting sore throat spray with a pleasant blackcurrant flavour. It is used to temporarily relieve the pain and discomfort of a sore throat in adults and children aged 6 years and over.
⸻
How It Works
The active ingredient, benzocaine, is a local anaesthetic that works by temporarily numbing the nerve endings in the throat. This reduces the sensation of pain and makes swallowing more comfortable, providing quick, targeted relief at the site of discomfort.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 6 years and over: spray 3 times directly into the throat. Repeat every 2 to 3 hours as needed. Do not use more than 8 times in 24 hours. Children under 6 years should not use this product. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Benzocaine 0.71 mg per spray (71 mg per 10 ml)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Localised irritation or burning sensation in the throat
• Allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, or swelling (rare)
• Numbness spreading beyond the throat area
• Taste disturbance
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 6 years of age
• People with a known allergy to benzocaine or any other local anaesthetic of the ester type
• People with a known allergy to any other ingredient in the product
• Those with a rare inherited condition called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency or methaemoglobinaemia
⸻
Interactions
Ultra Chloraseptic Throat Spray is not known to interact with most commonly used medicines when used as directed. However, benzocaine may interact with certain medicines used to treat heart conditions or with other local anaesthetics. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited information available on the use of benzocaine throat spray during pregnancy or breastfeeding. As this product is used locally in the throat and absorption into the bloodstream is minimal, risk is considered low, but caution is still advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There are no known interactions between Ultra Chloraseptic Throat Spray and alcohol. However, as alcohol can irritate a sore throat and worsen symptoms, it is generally advisable to avoid alcohol while experiencing throat discomfort.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Ultra Chloraseptic Throat Spray is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It acts locally in the throat and is not known to cause drowsiness or impair concentration when used as directed.
