Piriteze Allergy Syrup Sugar Free is an antihistamine liquid that relieves the symptoms of hay fever and other allergies, including a runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, and skin reactions. It is suitable for adults and children aged 6 years and over, and comes in a banana flavour that makes it easier to take.

How It Works

Piriteze contains cetirizine hydrochloride, a second-generation antihistamine that works by blocking histamine receptors in the body. Histamine is the chemical responsible for causing allergy symptoms, so by blocking its effects, cetirizine helps to reduce sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and a runny nose. It is non-drowsy for most people and provides all-day relief with just one daily dose.

Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over should take 10 ml (equivalent to 10 mg cetirizine) once daily. Children aged 6 to 11 years should take 5 ml (5 mg) once daily, or as directed by a doctor. Children aged 2 to 5 years may be given 2.5 ml (2.5 mg) twice daily under medical guidance — always consult a doctor before giving to children under 6 years. Use the measuring device provided and do not exceed the stated dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Who Should Not Take This Medicine

• Children under 2 years of age
• Anyone with a known allergy to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, or any other ingredient in the syrup
• People with severe kidney (renal) impairment
• Those with a rare hereditary condition such as galactose intolerance (note: this product is sugar free but refer to the PIL for full excipient details)

Interactions

Cetirizine may interact with medicines that cause drowsiness, such as sleeping tablets, sedatives, anxiety medicines, or strong pain relief (opioids), potentially increasing the sedative effect. Theophylline (used for asthma) may also interact with cetirizine. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of cetirizine during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it is generally not recommended during the first trimester. Cetirizine may pass into breast milk and its use while breastfeeding is not advised. Alcohol

You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking Piriteze Allergy Syrup. Alcohol can increase the risk of drowsiness and dizziness associated with cetirizine, even though this medicine is considered non-drowsy for most people at the recommended dose.

Driving and Operating Machinery

Piriteze is classed as a non-drowsy antihistamine; however, some people may still experience drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision whilst taking it. You should not drive or operate heavy machinery if you feel affected. Individual responses to cetirizine can vary, so take care until you know how this medicine affects you.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not refrigerate or freeze the syrup. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
