Pirinase Hayfever Nasal Spray – 60 Doses

Pirinase Hayfever Nasal Spray is a once-daily steroid nasal spray used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and other nasal allergies in adults and children aged 18 and over. It helps to clear a blocked or runny nose, reduce sneezing, and relieve itchy, watery eyes.

    How It Works

The active ingredient, fluticasone propionate, is a corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation in the lining of the nose. By calming this inflammatory response, it helps to relieve the nasal congestion, sneezing, and itching caused by allergic reactions to pollen and other allergens. It typically takes a few days of regular use to achieve its full effect, so it is best started before the hay fever season begins.

    Directions for Use

Adults aged 18 and over: spray 2 sprays into each nostril once daily, preferably in the morning. Once symptoms are well controlled, the dose may be reduced to 1 spray in each nostril once daily. Do not exceed 2 sprays in each nostril per day. This product is not recommended for children under 18 — a lower-strength fluticasone nasal spray is available for younger patients. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Fluticasone propionate 50 micrograms per actuation (spray)

    Possible Side Effects

    • Unpleasant taste or smell
    • Nosebleeds or blood-stained mucus
    • Dryness and irritation of the nose and throat
    • Headache
    • Rarely, a hole in the nasal septum (nasal septum perforation) with prolonged use
    • Rarely, raised pressure in the eye (glaucoma) or cataracts with long-term use

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Anyone who is allergic to fluticasone propionate or any other ingredient in the spray
    • Children under 18 years of age (this strength is not suitable)
    • People who have had recent nasal surgery or a nasal injury (until fully healed)
    • People with an active untreated nasal or sinus infection

    Interactions

Fluticasone propionate may interact with certain medicines used to treat HIV or fungal infections (such as ritonavir or ketoconazole), which can increase the amount of fluticasone in your body and raise the risk of side effects. Using other steroid medicines at the same time (including steroid inhalers or tablets) may also increase this risk. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of fluticasone propionate nasal spray during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. As only very small amounts are absorbed into the bloodstream when used as a nasal spray, the risk is considered low, but caution is still advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Pirinase Hayfever Nasal Spray and alcohol. However, if you have any concerns, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist for personalised advice.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Pirinase Hayfever Nasal Spray is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Unlike some antihistamine tablets used for hay fever, this nasal spray does not cause drowsiness.

    Storage

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
