    Description

    Paracetamol Oral Suspension 250mg/5ml – 100ml

Paracetamol Oral Suspension 250mg/5ml is a liquid pain relief and fever-reducing medicine designed for children aged 6 years and above. It can be used to relieve everyday aches and pains such as headache, toothache, earache, sore throat, and cold and flu symptoms, as well as to reduce fever including post-immunisation fever.

    How It Works

Paracetamol works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the body called prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing pain and raising body temperature. This helps to reduce pain and bring down a high temperature (fever) without causing irritation to the stomach lining, making it a gentle and well-tolerated option for children.

    Directions for Use

This suspension is intended for children aged 6 years and above. Always use the measuring device provided to ensure an accurate dose. Doses should be given every 4 to 6 hours as needed, with no more than 4 doses in any 24-hour period. Recommended doses by age are as follows:

    • Children aged 6–7 years: 5ml (250mg)
    • Children aged 8–9 years: 7.5ml (375mg)
    • Children aged 10–11 years: 10ml (500mg)
    • Children aged 12–15 years: 10–20ml (500–1000mg)

Do not give more than the recommended dose. Leave at least 4 hours between doses. Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Paracetamol 250mg per 5ml

    Possible Side Effects

Paracetamol is generally well tolerated when used as directed. Side effects are uncommon but may include:

    • Allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching
    • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (rare)
    • Low blood pressure or flushing (very rare, with injectable forms)
    • Abnormal liver function (with long-term excessive use)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not give this medicine to a child if they:

    • Are allergic to paracetamol or any other ingredient in this product
    • Are under 6 years of age
    • Already take other paracetamol-containing medicines (including combination cold and flu remedies)
    • Have severe liver or kidney problems
    • Have a rare hereditary condition causing problems with fructose (if the product contains sorbitol — check the label)

    Interactions

Paracetamol can interact with other medicines, including anticoagulants such as warfarin (regular paracetamol use may increase the risk of bleeding), medicines used to treat epilepsy (such as phenytoin, carbamazepine, and phenobarbital), and other medicines that affect the liver. Taking paracetamol alongside other products containing paracetamol — such as cold and flu remedies — can lead to accidental overdose. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

This product is intended for use in children aged 6 years and above and is not indicated for use in adults. However, paracetamol is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding when used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

As this medicine is intended for children aged 6 and above, alcohol consumption is not applicable. However, it is worth noting that excessive alcohol intake in adults taking paracetamol can increase the risk of liver damage. The suspension may contain small amounts of ethanol (alcohol) as an excipient — check the patient information leaflet for full details.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Paracetamol Oral Suspension is not expected to affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. This product is intended for children, so driving is not applicable; however, if a child appears drowsy or unwell after taking this medicine, they should rest and avoid activities requiring alertness.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not refrigerate or freeze the suspension. Once opened, use within the period stated on the bottle label — refer to the patient information leaflet for guidance. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
