    Description

    Paracetamol 500mg – 32 Tablets

Paracetamol 500mg Tablets provide effective relief from mild to moderate pain and help reduce fever. They are suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over, and can be used for headaches, migraines, toothache, sore throats, period pains, and neuralgia.

    How It Works

Paracetamol works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the brain called prostaglandins, which are involved in sending pain signals and raising body temperature. By reducing these chemicals, paracetamol helps to relieve pain and bring a high temperature back down to normal.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 16 and over: take 1–2 tablets (500mg–1000mg) every 4–6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 4 doses (8 tablets) in any 24-hour period. Children aged 12–15 years: take 1 tablet (500mg) every 4–6 hours as needed, up to a maximum of 4 doses in 24 hours. Leave at least 4 hours between doses. Swallow tablets whole with water. Do not exceed the stated dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Paracetamol 500mg per tablet

    Possible Side Effects

Paracetamol is generally well tolerated when taken as directed. Side effects are uncommon, but may include:
    • Skin rash or allergic reactions
    • Low blood pressure (when given intravenously — not relevant for tablets)
    • Blood disorders (very rare, with long-term use)
    • Liver or kidney problems (rare, usually associated with overdose or prolonged excessive use)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to paracetamol or any of the other ingredients
    • People with severe liver disease or severe kidney disease
    • People who regularly drink large amounts of alcohol
    • Children under 12 years of age (for this tablet strength)
    • People who are already taking other medicines containing paracetamol

    Interactions

Paracetamol can interact with certain medicines, and it is important to check before taking it alongside other products. Key interactions include:
    • Warfarin and other anticoagulants — regular use of paracetamol may increase the blood-thinning effect
    • Other paracetamol-containing products (e.g. cold and flu remedies) — taking these together can lead to overdose
    • Medicines for epilepsy such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, or phenobarbital — may reduce the effectiveness of paracetamol and increase the risk of liver damage
    • Colestyramine — may reduce the absorption of paracetamol if taken at the same time

Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Paracetamol has been widely used during pregnancy and breastfeeding and is generally considered the preferred first-choice painkiller when one is needed. However, it should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time possible. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

You should avoid or limit alcohol consumption while taking paracetamol, particularly if you drink heavily on a regular basis. Combining paracetamol with excessive alcohol intake can increase the risk of liver damage. Occasional, moderate alcohol consumption is unlikely to cause harm when paracetamol is taken as directed.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Paracetamol does not cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you feel unwell due to the underlying condition for which you are taking paracetamol, exercise caution before driving or using machinery.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
