    Description

    Paracetamol 125mg Suppositories: 10 Pack

Paracetamol 125mg Suppositories are a rectal medicine used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever (high temperature) in children aged 1 to 6 years. They are a practical alternative for young children who are unable or unwilling to take medicine by mouth.

    How It Works

Paracetamol works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the body called prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing pain and raising body temperature. When inserted rectally, the suppository dissolves and the paracetamol is absorbed through the lining of the rectum into the bloodstream, helping to bring down fever and ease discomfort.

    Directions for Use

These suppositories are intended for rectal use only in children aged 1 to 6 years. The usual dose is one suppository (125mg) inserted into the rectum. Doses may be repeated every 4 to 6 hours if necessary, but no more than 4 doses should be given in any 24-hour period. Do not use for more than 3 days without medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Paracetamol 125mg per suppository

    Possible Side Effects

Paracetamol suppositories are generally well tolerated, but possible side effects may include:
    • Mild local irritation or discomfort at the site of insertion
    • Skin rash or allergic reaction (rare)
    • Low blood platelet count (very rare, with prolonged use)
    • Liver or kidney problems (very rare, usually associated with overdose)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not use these suppositories if the child:
    • Is allergic to paracetamol or any other ingredient in the product
    • Is under 1 year of age
    • Has severe liver or kidney disease
    • Has inflammation or irritation of the rectum or anus
    • Is already taking other medicines containing paracetamol

    Interactions

Paracetamol can interact with certain medicines, including warfarin (a blood thinner) and some medicines used to treat epilepsy such as carbamazepine and phenytoin. Using more than one product containing paracetamol at the same time can lead to an accidental overdose. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

These suppositories are intended for use in children aged 1 to 6 years and are not intended for use by adults. However, paracetamol is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding when used at the recommended dose and for the shortest time necessary. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

These suppositories are intended for use in young children, for whom alcohol consumption is not applicable. In general, paracetamol should be used with caution alongside alcohol in adults, as regular alcohol use can increase the risk of liver damage.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Paracetamol suppositories do not cause drowsiness and are not expected to affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. As this product is intended for young children, this consideration is not relevant for the child receiving treatment.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not store in the refrigerator unless otherwise stated on the packaging, as suppositories may become too hard or too soft when exposed to extreme temperatures. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
