Description
Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops – 10ml
Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops are used to relieve the eye symptoms of hay fever, such as itching, redness, watering, and puffiness. They contain sodium cromoglicate, a well-established ingredient that helps soothe irritated, uncomfortable eyes during the hay fever season.
⸻
How It Works
Sodium cromoglicate works by stabilising certain cells in the eye called mast cells, which are involved in allergic reactions. By preventing these cells from releasing histamine and other chemicals that cause irritation, the drops help to reduce itching, redness, and swelling in the eyes during an allergic response.
⸻
Directions for Use
For adults and children aged 6 years and over: instil 1 to 2 drops into each affected eye, four times a day. For best results, use the drops regularly throughout the hay fever season, even when symptoms are not severe. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Sodium cromoglicate 2% w/v (20 mg per ml)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Temporary stinging or burning sensation when the drops are applied
• Transient blurring of vision immediately after use
• Eye irritation or discomfort
• Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as redness or swelling around the eye
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• People who are allergic to sodium cromoglicate or any other ingredient in the product
• Children under 6 years of age (unless directed by a doctor)
• Those who wear soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses — the drops should not be used while wearing soft contact lenses (remove lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting)
⸻
Interactions
No significant drug interactions are commonly associated with Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops when used as directed. However, if you are using any other eye drops or eye preparations, leave at least 5 minutes between applying each product. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops are not expected to cause harm when used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as the amount absorbed into the body is very small. However, as with all medicines, caution is advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops and alcohol. This medicine is applied directly to the eye, and the amount absorbed into the bloodstream is minimal, so alcohol is not expected to affect how the drops work.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops may cause temporary blurring of vision immediately after application. You should wait until your vision has fully cleared before driving or operating machinery. The drops do not cause drowsiness.
⸻
