    Description

Movicol Powder Lemon & Lime Powder – 30 Sachets

Movicol Lemon & Lime is a laxative used to treat constipation and faecal impaction (a severe build-up of stools) in adults and children over 12 years. Each sachet is dissolved in water to create a refreshing lemon and lime flavoured drink that helps restore normal bowel movements.

    How It Works

Movicol contains macrogol (also known as polyethylene glycol), which works by drawing water into the bowel from surrounding tissues. This softens and loosens the stool, making it easier to pass. Importantly, macrogol works in a balanced way that does not cause the body to lose water or essential salts (electrolytes), reducing the risk of dehydration.

    Directions for Use

For constipation in adults and children over 12 years: dissolve 1–3 sachets per day in water (each sachet in 125 ml of water), as directed. For faecal impaction: up to 8 sachets per day may be taken, ideally within a 6-hour period. Each sachet should be dissolved in 125 ml (approximately half a glass) of water and drunk straight away or within one hour of preparation. Do not take for more than 2 weeks for constipation without medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    Each sachet contains:
    • Macrogol 3350 – 13.125 g
    • Sodium chloride – 350.7 mg
    • Sodium hydrogen carbonate – 178.5 mg
    • Potassium chloride – 46.6 mg

    Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Movicol can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Common side effects include:
    • Stomach pain or cramps
    • Bloating or flatulence (wind)
    • Nausea
    • Diarrhoea
    • Vomiting
    • Headache
    • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, or swelling)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not take Movicol if you:
    • Are allergic to macrogol (polyethylene glycol) or any other ingredient in this product
    • Have a perforated bowel or risk of bowel perforation
    • Have a blocked bowel (intestinal obstruction)
    • Have a paralysed bowel (ileus)
    • Have severe inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis in an acute flare)
    • Have toxic megacolon
    • Are under 12 years of age (this adult formulation is not suitable for children under 12)

    Interactions

Movicol is not known to have significant interactions with most medicines. However, because it increases the speed at which the bowel empties, it may reduce the absorption of some oral medications taken at the same time. If you take other medicines regularly, it is advisable to take them at a different time to Movicol. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Movicol is not significantly absorbed into the body, so it is generally considered suitable for use during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. However, you should always seek advice before taking any medicine during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Movicol and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, and it is generally advisable to maintain good fluid intake when treating constipation. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol whilst constipated is not recommended.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Movicol does not cause drowsiness or impair concentration, and it is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You can continue normal activities whilst taking this medicine.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Once dissolved in water, the solution should be used within one hour or stored in a refrigerator and used within 6 hours. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
