Description
Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment – 3.5g
Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment is a lubricating eye ointment used to relieve the symptoms of dry eyes, including dryness, irritation, and discomfort. It is particularly useful for providing longer-lasting lubrication overnight or when eye drops alone are not enough to keep your eyes comfortable.
⸻
How It Works
Lacri-Lube contains a combination of white soft paraffin and liquid paraffin, which form a protective, lubricating layer over the surface of the eye. This layer helps to replace or supplement your eye’s natural tear film, reducing friction and soothing dryness and irritation. Because it is an ointment rather than a drop, it stays on the eye longer, making it especially effective when used at night.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children: Apply a small amount of ointment (approximately 1 cm) to the inside of the lower eyelid as needed, or as directed by your doctor. Gently close the eye and blink a few times to spread the ointment evenly. Lacri-Lube is most commonly used at bedtime due to the temporary blurring it may cause. Do not touch the tip of the tube to your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• White soft paraffin 57.3% w/w
• Liquid paraffin 42.5% w/w
• Wool alcohols (lanolin) 0.2% w/w
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Temporary blurred vision immediately after application
• Mild eye irritation or stinging upon application
• A sensation of something in the eye
• Skin irritation around the eye area (rare)
• Allergic reactions such as redness, swelling, or itching (rare)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• People who are allergic to white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, wool alcohols (lanolin), or any other ingredient in the ointment
• Those with a known sensitivity to lanolin-based products should use with caution and seek advice from their PillSorted pharmacist before use
• Do not use if you wear soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses unless advised by your doctor or optometrist
⸻
Interactions
Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment is not known to interact significantly with other medicines. However, if you are using other eye drops or eye preparations, allow at least 5 minutes between applying each product, and always apply eye drops before applying the ointment, as the ointment can prevent other products from being absorbed properly. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment is generally considered suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as it acts locally on the surface of the eye and is not significantly absorbed into the body. However, as with all medicines, caution is advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment and alcohol. This medicine is applied directly to the eye and is not absorbed into the bloodstream in meaningful amounts, so alcohol consumption is not expected to affect its safety or effectiveness.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment can cause temporary blurred vision immediately after application, which may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery safely. It is recommended to apply the ointment at bedtime to minimise this effect. Do not drive or use machinery until your vision has fully cleared after application.
⸻
Storage
Store Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Once opened, the tube should be used within 28 days and then discarded, even if some ointment remains. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
