    Description

    Imodium Original 2mg – 6 Capsules

Imodium Original 2mg Capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride and are used to relieve the symptoms of short-term (acute) diarrhoea, as well as diarrhoea associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) in adults.

    How It Works

Loperamide hydrochloride works by slowing down the movement of the gut, which reduces how often you need to go to the toilet. It also allows more time for water and salts to be absorbed back into the body from the bowel, helping to firm up loose stools and restore a more normal bowel rhythm.

    Directions for Use

For acute diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 and over: take 2 capsules (4mg) initially, then 1 capsule (2mg) after each loose stool. Do not take more than 8 capsules (16mg) in 24 hours. For IBS-related diarrhoea in adults aged 18 and over: take 1 capsule (2mg) initially, then 1 capsule after each loose stool, up to a maximum of 4 capsules (8mg) in 24 hours. Swallow capsules whole with water. Do not give to children under 12 years unless directed by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to loperamide hydrochloride or any other ingredient in the capsules
    • People with acute dysentery (diarrhoea with blood and high fever)

    Interactions

Loperamide may interact with certain medicines, including ritonavir, quinidine, and desmopressin, which may increase the effects of loperamide in the body. Some medicines that affect the liver enzymes responsible for breaking down loperamide may also alter its effectiveness. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The use of loperamide during pregnancy is not generally recommended, especially during the first trimester, as safety has not been fully established. Loperamide may pass into breast milk in small amounts, so use during breastfeeding is not advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no specific known interaction between loperamide and alcohol. However, alcohol can itself irritate the gut and may worsen diarrhoea symptoms, so it is sensible to avoid alcohol whilst experiencing a bout of diarrhoea and whilst taking this medicine.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Imodium Original may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. If you are affected, do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or perform any tasks that require full concentration until you feel back to normal.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the capsules in their original packaging until required. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
