Description
Imodium Instant Melts 2mg Orodispersible Tablets – 12tablet 2 X – 6tablets
Imodium Instant Melts contain loperamide hydrochloride and are used to treat short-term (acute) diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 years and over. The orodispersible tablets dissolve on the tongue without the need for water, making them convenient to take on the go.
⸻
How It Works
Loperamide works by slowing down the movement of the muscles in the gut, which reduces how quickly food and fluids pass through the bowel. This allows more water to be absorbed from the gut back into the body, resulting in firmer, less frequent stools.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take 2 tablets (4mg) as the starting dose, followed by 1 tablet (2mg) after each loose stool. Do not take more than 8 tablets (16mg) in any 24-hour period. Place the tablet on the tongue and allow it to dissolve — no water is needed. Do not use for more than 48 hours without seeking medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

• People with a blockage in the gut (intestinal obstruction)
⸻
Interactions
Loperamide may interact with certain medicines, including those used to treat heart rhythm problems (such as quinidine or ritonavir), as these can increase the level of loperamide in the blood. Some antibiotics and antifungal medicines may also interact with loperamide. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Imodium Instant Melts are not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester, unless advised by a doctor. Loperamide may pass into breast milk in small amounts, and its use during breastfeeding is generally not recommended. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no specific interaction between loperamide and alcohol; however, alcohol can worsen symptoms such as dizziness and dehydration, which may already be a concern during a bout of diarrhoea. It is advisable to avoid alcohol while experiencing diarrhoea and to focus on staying well hydrated.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Imodium Instant Melts may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. If you are affected, do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you feel well enough to do so safely.
⸻
