    Description

    Imodium Original 2mg – 12 Capsules

Imodium Original 2mg Capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride, an effective treatment for short-term diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 and over. They can also be used to manage diarrhoea associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) in adults who have been previously diagnosed by a doctor.

    How It Works

Loperamide hydrochloride works by slowing down the movement of the gut, which gives the bowel more time to absorb water and salts from the stool. This helps to reduce the frequency of bowel movements and firm up loose stools, providing relief from diarrhoea symptoms.

    Directions for Use

For acute (short-term) diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 and over: take 2 capsules (4mg) initially, followed by 1 capsule (2mg) after each loose stool. Do not take more than 8 capsules (16mg) in 24 hours. For IBS-related diarrhoea in adults: take 1 capsule (2mg) up to 4 times daily. Swallow the capsules whole with water. If symptoms do not improve within 48 hours, consult your doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Interactions

Loperamide may interact with certain medicines, including quinidine, ritonavir, and other medicines that affect the heart rhythm (such as those used to treat arrhythmias). Some medicines such as desmopressin may have their effects increased when taken with loperamide. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of loperamide during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it is generally not recommended during the first trimester. Loperamide may pass into breast milk in small amounts and is not recommended during breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no specific interaction between loperamide and alcohol; however, alcohol may worsen dehydration caused by diarrhoea. It is advisable to avoid alcohol while experiencing diarrhoea and to focus on staying well hydrated with water or oral rehydration solutions.
