Description
Imodium Classic 2mg Capsules – 12capsule
Imodium Classic 2mg Capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride, an antidiarrhoeal medicine used to treat acute (sudden) diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 years and over. They help to quickly reduce the frequency of loose stools and relieve the discomfort associated with diarrhoea.
⸻
How It Works
Loperamide works by slowing down the movement of the gut (bowel), allowing more water and salts to be absorbed back into the body from the stools. This makes stools firmer and reduces how often you need to go to the toilet. It acts directly on the gut wall and does not enter the bloodstream in significant amounts.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take 2 capsules (4mg) initially after the first loose stool, then take 1 capsule (2mg) after each subsequent loose stool. Do not take more than 8 capsules (16mg) in any 24-hour period. Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not use for more than 48 hours without seeking medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

⸻
Interactions
Loperamide may interact with certain medicines including quinidine, ritonavir, and other medicines that affect gut motility. Some medicines that inhibit liver enzymes (such as certain antivirals or antifungals) may increase the levels of loperamide in the body. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Imodium Classic is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy, and caution is advised throughout pregnancy. Loperamide may pass into breast milk in small amounts, so use during breastfeeding is generally not recommended. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no direct interaction between loperamide and alcohol; however, alcohol can worsen dehydration caused by diarrhoea. It is advisable to avoid alcohol whilst you have diarrhoea and to focus on keeping well hydrated with water or oral rehydration drinks.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Imodium Classic may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. If you are affected, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel back to normal. Most people are not affected, but you should be aware of how this medicine affects you before driving.
