    Description

    GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment – 4g

GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment is used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (an infection of the eye) in adults and children aged 2 years and over. It helps to clear up common symptoms such as redness, itching, and sticky discharge from the eye.

    How It Works

The ointment contains chloramphenicol, a broad-spectrum antibiotic that works by stopping bacteria from producing the proteins they need to survive and multiply. By killing the bacteria causing the infection, it helps to relieve symptoms and clear the infection, usually within 5 days.

    Directions for Use

Apply approximately 1cm of ointment to the inner lower eyelid of the affected eye(s) up to 3 to 4 times daily, or as directed. The course should be continued for 5 days or until symptoms have fully resolved. GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment is suitable for adults and children aged 2 years and over; it is not recommended for children under 2 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Chloramphenicol 1% w/w

    Possible Side Effects

    • Temporary stinging, burning, or irritation in the eye after applying the ointment
    • Temporary blurred vision immediately after application
    • Redness or itching of the eye not related to the infection
    • Allergic reactions such as swelling of the eyelids or skin rash around the eye (rare)
    • In very rare cases, serious blood disorders (aplastic anaemia) have been reported with chloramphenicol eye products — this is extremely uncommon

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to chloramphenicol or any other ingredient in the ointment
    • Children under 2 years of age
    • People with a personal or family history of blood disorders, particularly aplastic anaemia
    • People who wear contact lenses (remove lenses before use and do not reinsert while using this product)
    • People currently using other eye drops or eye ointments without consulting a pharmacist or doctor first

    Interactions

GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment is applied directly to the eye and is not significantly absorbed into the body, so interactions with other medicines are uncommon. However, if you are using any other eye preparations, allow at least 5 minutes between applications, and apply eye drops before ointments. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of chloramphenicol eye ointment during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. Although systemic absorption from eye preparations is very low, caution is advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment and alcohol. As this product is applied to the eye and is not significantly absorbed into the bloodstream, alcohol consumption is not expected to affect how it works.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment may cause temporary blurred vision immediately after application, which could affect your ability to drive or use machinery. Do not drive or operate machinery until your vision has fully cleared after applying the ointment.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, discard the tube after 4 weeks, even if some ointment remains. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
