Gaviscon Peppermint Liquid Relief is an antacid and alginate medicine used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, acid indigestion, and gastric reflux. It provides fast, soothing relief, making it a popular choice for adults and children over 12 years of age.

How It Works

Gaviscon Peppermint Liquid works in two ways. The antacid ingredients (sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate) neutralise excess stomach acid, while sodium alginate forms a thick, gel-like raft that floats on top of the stomach contents. This raft acts as a physical barrier, helping to prevent acid from rising back up into the oesophagus (food pipe) and causing that burning sensation.

Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: take 10–20 ml (2–4 teaspoons) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Do not exceed 4 doses in 24 hours. This product is not recommended for children under 12 years without medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use.

• Calcium carbonate 80 mg per 5 ml

Possible Side Effects

• In rare cases, raised sodium levels with prolonged high-dose use

Who Should Not Use This Product

• People with a known allergy to any of the ingredients
• Those on a strictly sodium-restricted diet (each 10 ml dose contains a significant amount of sodium)
• Children under 12 years of age (unless directed by a doctor)
• People with hypercalcaemia (high blood calcium levels) or kidney stones without medical supervision

Storage

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate. Once opened, use within the timeframe stated on the bottle. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
