    Description

Gaviscon Double Action Mint – 24 Chewable Tablets

Gaviscon Double Action Mint Chewable Tablets are used to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms of heartburn, acid indigestion, and reflux. They are suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over, and come in a pleasant mint flavour.

    How It Works

Gaviscon Double Action works in two ways to tackle heartburn and indigestion. The sodium alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a gel-like raft that floats on top of the stomach contents, helping to prevent acid from rising back up into the food pipe (oesophagus). At the same time, the calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate help to neutralise excess stomach acid, providing fast relief from discomfort.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over should chew 2 to 4 tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. Do not exceed 16 tablets in any 24-hour period. This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years of age unless directed by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    Each chewable tablet contains:
    • Sodium alginate 250 mg
    • Sodium bicarbonate 133.5 mg
    • Calcium carbonate 160 mg

    Possible Side Effects

Gaviscon Double Action is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects may include:
    • Flatulence (wind) or bloating
    • Nausea
    • Constipation or diarrhoea
    • Allergic reactions (such as skin rash or itching) — rare
    • Changes in blood mineral levels with long-term or high-dose use

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not take Gaviscon Double Action Mint Tablets if:
    • You are allergic to any of the ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet
    • You are on a strictly controlled low-sodium (low-salt) diet
    • You have been advised by a doctor to restrict your calcium intake
    • You have hypercalcaemia (raised calcium levels in the blood)
    • You have nephrocalcinosis (calcium deposits in the kidneys)
    • You have kidney failure or severely reduced kidney function
    • The child is under 12 years of age (unless prescribed by a doctor)

    Interactions

Gaviscon Double Action may affect how some other medicines are absorbed into the body. It is advised to leave a gap of at least 2 hours between taking Gaviscon and other medicines, particularly antibiotics (such as tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones), thyroid medicines (levothyroxine), bisphosphonates, iron supplements, and some heart medicines. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Gaviscon Double Action Mint Tablets are commonly used during pregnancy to relieve heartburn; however, each tablet contains sodium, so prolonged or high-dose use should be discussed with a healthcare professional. The medicine is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding, but as with all medicines, caution is advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between Gaviscon Double Action and alcohol. However, alcohol can irritate the stomach lining and worsen symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux, so it is best to limit alcohol consumption while experiencing these symptoms.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Gaviscon Double Action Mint Tablets are not known to cause drowsiness or impair concentration. They are not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
