    Description

    Ferrograd 325mg – 30 Tablets

Ferrograd 325mg tablets contain ferrous sulfate, an iron supplement used to prevent and treat iron deficiency anaemia. It is particularly helpful for people who are not getting enough iron from their diet or who have conditions that cause iron loss, such as heavy periods or certain bowel conditions.

    How It Works

Iron is an essential mineral your body needs to make haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body. When iron levels are too low, the body cannot make enough healthy red blood cells, leading to tiredness, weakness, and other symptoms of anaemia. Ferrous sulfate replenishes your body’s iron stores, helping to restore normal red blood cell production. Most people begin to feel better within one to two weeks, although it may take up to four weeks to see the full benefit.

    Directions for Use

The usual adult dose is one tablet taken once daily. Ferrograd tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water — do not crush or chew them. They are best taken on an empty stomach, but if they cause stomach upset, they can be taken with food. These tablets are not recommended for children. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Ferrous sulfate (dried) 325mg per tablet

    Possible Side Effects

    • Dark or black stools (this is normal and harmless)
    • Nausea or feeling sick
    • Stomach pain or cramps
    • Constipation
    • Diarrhoea
    • Loss of appetite
    • Heartburn or indigestion

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People with known hypersensitivity to ferrous sulfate or any ingredient in the tablet
    • People with iron overload conditions such as haemochromatosis or haemosiderosis
    • People with anaemia not caused by iron deficiency (e.g., haemolytic anaemia)
    • People with blockage or narrowing of the digestive tract
    • Children under 12 years of age

    Interactions

Ferrograd can interact with a number of medicines and foods. It may reduce the absorption of certain antibiotics (such as tetracyclines and quinolones), thyroid medicines (levothyroxine), bisphosphonates, and some Parkinson’s disease medicines — leave at least two hours between taking these and your iron tablet. Antacids and dairy products can also reduce iron absorption if taken at the same time. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) may improve iron absorption when taken together. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Iron deficiency anaemia is common during pregnancy, and iron supplementation may be recommended by a doctor or midwife. Ferrous sulfate is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding when prescribed or recommended by a healthcare professional. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between ferrous sulfate and alcohol. However, excessive alcohol consumption can contribute to nutritional deficiencies and may affect how well your body absorbs iron, so it is advisable to keep alcohol intake to a minimum while treating iron deficiency anaemia.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Ferrograd tablets are not known to cause drowsiness or impair concentration. This medicine is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if your anaemia itself is causing fatigue or dizziness, take care until your symptoms improve.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
