Description
Dioralyte Natural – 6 Sachets
Dioralyte Natural Sachets are an oral rehydration therapy used to replace fluids and essential salts (electrolytes) lost during bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting. They help to prevent and treat dehydration, which can occur rapidly, particularly in young children and the elderly.
⸻
How It Works
Dioralyte contains a carefully balanced mix of glucose (sugar) and electrolytes — including sodium, potassium, and chloride — that work together to help your body absorb water more effectively. This combination uses the body’s natural sodium-glucose transport mechanism in the gut wall to rapidly restore fluid and salt levels that have been lost through diarrhoea or vomiting.
⸻
Directions for Use
Each sachet should be dissolved in 200 ml of fresh drinking water (not fizzy water or juice) and drunk as soon as it is prepared. Adults and children over 2 years: drink one sachet after each loose bowel motion, up to a maximum of 5 sachets in 24 hours, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Infants under 2 years: use only under medical supervision. Continue to offer normal feeds alongside Dioralyte where appropriate, and ensure adequate fluid intake throughout the day. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻

Per sachet (dissolved in 200 ml water):
• Sodium chloride 470 mg

Possible Side Effects
Dioralyte is generally very well tolerated. Possible side effects may include:

• High levels of salts in the blood if taken in excessive quantities (signs include thirst, confusion, or muscle cramps — seek medical advice if these occur)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not use Dioralyte Natural if:
• You are allergic to any of the ingredients
• You have been diagnosed with intestinal obstruction (a blockage in the bowel)
• You have a condition causing reduced or absent urine output (anuria)
• You have severe and persistent vomiting that prevents any fluid from being kept down
• You have been told by a doctor that you have a problem with the way your body handles sugar (e.g. glucose-galactose malabsorption)
⸻
Interactions
Dioralyte Natural is not known to have significant interactions with most common medicines. However, its electrolyte content (particularly potassium and sodium) may be relevant if you are taking medicines that affect salt balance, such as diuretics (water tablets), ACE inhibitors, or corticosteroids. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Dioralyte Natural is generally considered suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as replacing lost fluids and electrolytes is important for both mother and baby. However, it is always advisable to consult a healthcare professional before starting any new medicine during pregnancy. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There are no known interactions between Dioralyte Natural and alcohol. However, alcohol can worsen dehydration and irritate the gut, so it is advisable to avoid alcohol whilst you are experiencing diarrhoea or vomiting and while using this product.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Dioralyte Natural does not contain any ingredients that are known to cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, dehydration itself can affect concentration, so ensure you are fully recovered before driving.
⸻
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 25°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Once a sachet has been dissolved in water, use the solution immediately or within one hour if kept at room temperature, or within 24 hours if stored in a refrigerator.
