    Description

    Daktarin (Miconazole) Powder – 20g

Daktarin Powder contains miconazole, an antifungal medicine used to treat and help prevent fungal skin infections such as athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), ringworm, and jock itch (tinea cruris). It is applied directly to the skin and is suitable for use on the feet and other affected areas of the body.

    How It Works

Miconazole belongs to a group of medicines called azole antifungals. It works by damaging the cell membranes of fungi, stopping them from growing and multiplying, which clears the infection and helps prevent it from returning.

    Directions for Use

For adults and children aged 2 years and over, apply a thin layer of the powder to the affected and surrounding skin two to three times daily. Continue treatment for at least 10 days after the symptoms have cleared to prevent the infection returning. For athlete’s foot, you can also sprinkle the powder inside shoes and socks. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Miconazole nitrate 2% w/w (20 mg per gram of powder)

    Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Daktarin Powder can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Possible side effects include:
    • Skin irritation or burning sensation at the application site
    • Redness or rash
    • Itching at the site of application
    • Allergic skin reactions (such as contact dermatitis)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to miconazole, other azole antifungals, or any other ingredient in this product
    • Children under 2 years of age (unless directed by a doctor)
    • Do not use in or around the eyes
    • Do not use on broken, deeply cracked, or severely inflamed skin without medical advice

    Interactions

Although Daktarin Powder is applied to the skin and only small amounts are absorbed into the body, interactions with other medicines are considered unlikely at normal topical doses. However, if you are using this powder over a large area of skin or for a prolonged period, there is a theoretical risk of interaction with anticoagulants such as warfarin. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Daktarin Powder is applied topically and only a small amount is absorbed through the skin, but as a precaution it should be used with care during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester. Avoid applying it to the breast area if you are breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Daktarin Powder and alcohol. As this is a topical product applied to the skin, alcohol consumption is not expected to affect how the medicine works.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Daktarin Powder is applied to the skin and is not known to cause drowsiness or affect concentration. It is not expected to have any effect on your ability to drive or operate machinery.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
