Aspirin 300mg Tablets 32 Pack (Brand May Vary)
Aspirin 300mg tablets are a widely trusted over-the-counter medicine that provides effective relief from pain, inflammation, and fever. These tablets contain aspirin, a well-established active ingredient that belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Aspirin 300mg is particularly effective for treating headaches, dental pain, period pain, muscular aches, symptoms of cold and flu, and mild to moderate pain associated with inflammation. This convenient 32-tablet pack ensures you have reliable pain relief when you need it most.
How It Works
Aspirin works by blocking the production of certain natural substances in your body called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals that cause pain, inflammation, and fever at the site of injury or illness. By reducing prostaglandin production, aspirin effectively reduces pain signals, decreases inflammation, and helps lower elevated body temperature. The 300mg strength provides a therapeutic dose that is effective for most adults while remaining suitable for short-term use without prescription.
Directions for Use
Adults and children over 16 years: Take 1-2 tablets every 4 hours as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets (2400mg) in any 24-hour period.
Children aged 12-15 years: Take 1 tablet every 4 hours as needed. Do not take more than 4 tablets (1200mg) in any 24-hour period.
Swallow tablets whole with a full glass of water. Take tablets with or after food to reduce the risk of stomach irritation. Do not give to children under 12 years old unless specifically directed by a doctor. Do not use for more than 3 days for fever or more than 10 days for pain without consulting a healthcare professional.
Active Ingredients
Each tablet contains:
- Aspirin 300mg
The tablets also contain inactive ingredients which may vary depending on the manufacturer, but commonly include maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other pharmaceutical excipients necessary for tablet formation.
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, aspirin can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects may include:
- Stomach upset, indigestion, or nausea
- Stomach pain or discomfort
- Increased risk of bruising or bleeding
Less common but more serious side effects may include:
- Stomach ulcers or bleeding (symptoms may include severe stomach pain, black tarry stools, or vomiting blood)
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
- Allergic reactions including skin rash, breathing difficulties, or swelling
If you experience any concerning side effects, stop taking the medicine and seek medical advice promptly.
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not take aspirin if you:
- Are allergic to aspirin or any other NSAIDs
- Are under 12 years of age (unless specifically prescribed by a doctor)
- Have a current or history of stomach ulcers or bleeding
- Have severe heart, liver, or kidney problems
- Are in the last three months of pregnancy
- Have asthma triggered by aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Have a bleeding disorder such as haemophilia
- Are taking warfarin or other blood-thinning medicines (unless advised by a doctor)
Consult your doctor before taking aspirin if you have asthma, kidney or liver problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, or are taking other medications.
Interactions
Aspirin can interact with several other medicines, potentially affecting how they work or increasing the risk of side effects. Important interactions include blood-thinning medicines (warfarin), other anti-inflammatory drugs, certain blood pressure medications, diabetes medicines, and some antidepressants. If you are taking any other medicines, including those bought without a prescription, herbal remedies, or supplements, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist before taking aspirin to ensure it is safe for you.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it is important to seek advice before taking aspirin. Aspirin should not be used during the last three months of pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby and cause complications during delivery. During the first two trimesters of pregnancy and while breastfeeding, aspirin should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks, and only under medical supervision. Always consult your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor for personalised advice about pain relief options during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Alcohol
It is advisable to avoid or limit alcohol consumption while taking aspirin, particularly if you are taking it regularly. Both alcohol and aspirin can irritate the stomach lining, and taking them together increases the risk of stomach ulcers and bleeding. Alcohol may also increase the risk of other side effects. If you do choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation and preferably with food to minimise stomach irritation.
Driving and Operating Machinery
Aspirin is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery when taken at recommended doses. However, if you experience any unusual side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, or visual disturbances, you should not drive or use machinery until these effects have worn off. If you are unsure about your ability to drive safely while taking this medicine, consult your pharmacist or doctor.
Storage
Store tablets in their original packaging in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Keep away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom or kitchen where humidity levels may be high. Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use tablets after the expiry date printed on the packaging. If tablets become discoloured, crumbled, or smell strongly of vinegar, do not use them as this may indicate deterioration.
Important Information
All medicines can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious but most of the time they are not. Do not be alarmed by the list of possible side effects. You may not experience any of them. Ask your PillSorted pharmacist to answer any questions you may have.
If any of the following happen, stop taking the medicine and tell your pharmacist immediately or go to the Accident and Emergency department at your nearest hospital:
- Allergic reactions including swelling of the face, lips or tongue which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing
These are very serious side effects. If you have them, you may have had a serious allergic reaction to the medicine. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation.
