Almus Ibuprofen and Codeine 200mg/12.8mg Tablets provide dual-action pain relief, combining an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen) with a mild opioid painkiller (codeine) for effective relief of moderate pain that has not responded to ibuprofen or paracetamol alone. ⸻
How It Works
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing the production of prostaglandins — chemicals in the body that cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. Codeine phosphate is an opioid analgesic that acts on pain receptors in the brain and spinal cord to reduce the way you feel pain, providing an added level of relief when ibuprofen alone is not enough.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: Take 1–2 tablets up to three times a day as needed, leaving at least 6 hours between doses. Do not take more than 6 tablets in any 24-hour period. Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water, preferably with food or milk to reduce the chance of stomach upset. This medicine should not be used for more than 3 days without seeking medical advice. Do not use in children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

Interactions
This medicine may interact with a number of other medicines, including other NSAIDs or aspirin, blood thinners (such as warfarin), antidepressants (including SSRIs and MAOIs), blood pressure medicines, diuretics (water tablets), lithium, methotrexate, and other medicines that cause drowsiness or sedation. Combining codeine with sedatives, sleeping tablets, or medicines for anxiety can increase the risk of serious breathing problems. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
This medicine should not be used during the last trimester (3 months) of pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby or cause complications during labour. Use in the first and second trimesters should be avoided unless clearly necessary and under medical supervision. Codeine passes into breast milk and can cause harmful sedation in a breastfed infant, so this medicine must not be used while breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine. Both codeine and alcohol have a sedative effect on the central nervous system, and combining them can increase the risk of dizziness, drowsiness, and impaired judgement. Alcohol can also worsen the risk of stomach irritation or bleeding caused by ibuprofen.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision, particularly when you first start taking it. Codeine in particular can impair your ability to react and concentrate. You should not drive or operate heavy machinery if you are affected. If you are unsure how this medicine affects you, avoid driving until you know how you respond.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the tablets in their original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
