    Description

Avomine Travel Sickness 25mg (Promethazine) – 28 Tablets

Avomine is a travel sickness tablet containing promethazine teoclate, an antihistamine used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by travel sickness. It can be taken before a journey to help stop travel sickness before it starts.

    How It Works

Promethazine belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. It works by blocking histamine receptors in the brain and inner ear, reducing the signals that trigger feelings of nausea and sickness during travel. It also has a mild sedative effect, which can help to calm the body’s response to motion.

    Directions for Use

For travel sickness prevention in adults and children aged 10 years and over: take one tablet (25mg) the night before travel, or two hours before the journey begins. For journeys lasting more than 24 hours, a further tablet may be taken after 24 hours if needed. Children aged 5 to 10 years: half a tablet (12.5mg) may be given — refer to the patient information leaflet for full details. This medicine is not recommended for children under 5 years of age. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    • Headache
    • Restlessness or excitability (more common in children)

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Children under 5 years of age
    • People with a known allergy to promethazine or any other ingredient in this product
    • People with epilepsy or a history of seizures
    • People with certain eye conditions such as angle-closure glaucoma
    • People with an enlarged prostate or urinary retention problems
    • People with severe liver problems
    • Those taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping them
    • People with a condition called porphyria

    Interactions

Avomine may interact with other medicines that cause drowsiness, including sleeping tablets, anxiety medicines, antidepressants, and strong painkillers, increasing the sedative effect. It may also interact with anticholinergic medicines (used for bladder problems, Parkinson’s disease, or irritable bowel syndrome), certain antiepileptics, and medicines for an irregular heartbeat. Avoid taking Avomine at the same time as MAOIs. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The use of Avomine is generally not recommended during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester, as the safety of promethazine in early pregnancy has not been fully established. Promethazine may pass into breast milk and could cause excessive sedation in a breastfed infant, so it should be avoided whilst breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking Avomine. Alcohol can significantly increase the sedative effect of promethazine, making you feel much more drowsy and increasing the risk of accidents or falls. This combination can also impair your judgement and coordination more than either substance alone.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Avomine can cause significant drowsiness and may impair your ability to drive, cycle, or operate machinery safely. You should not drive or use heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. Due to its sedative properties, this medicine is particularly likely to affect your alertness the day after taking it.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in the original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
