Description
Acnecide 5% Wash Gel Benzoyl Peroxide – 100g
Acnecide 5% Wash Gel is a topical acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, used to treat mild to moderate acne on the face and body. It helps to reduce spots, blackheads, and the bacteria that cause acne breakouts.
⸻
How It Works
Benzoyl peroxide works by releasing oxygen into the pores of the skin, which kills the bacteria (Cutibacterium acnes) responsible for causing acne. It also helps to unblock pores and reduce redness and inflammation, leading to clearer, healthier-looking skin over time.
⸻
Directions for Use
For adults and children aged 12 years and over: wet the affected area, apply a small amount of gel and work into a lather, then rinse thoroughly. Use once or twice daily. Start with once daily to check skin tolerance, and avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and broken skin. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Benzoyl peroxide 5% w/w
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Skin dryness or peeling
• Redness or irritation at the application site
• A mild stinging or burning sensation
• Skin sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)
• Allergic skin reactions such as itching or rash
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• People who are allergic to benzoyl peroxide or any other ingredient in the product
• Children under 12 years of age
• Anyone with very sensitive or eczema-prone skin (unless advised by a doctor)
• Do not apply to broken, sunburned, or severely irritated skin
⸻
Interactions
Avoid using other topical acne products (such as retinoids, salicylic acid, or exfoliants) on the same area at the same time, as this may increase skin irritation. Benzoyl peroxide can bleach hair, fabric, and clothing, so take care during application. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited data on the safety of benzoyl peroxide during pregnancy and breastfeeding, though systemic absorption through the skin is considered minimal. As a precaution, use is generally not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding without medical guidance. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Acnecide 5% Wash Gel and alcohol. However, alcohol-based skincare products used alongside this gel may increase skin dryness and irritation, so it is advisable to use them cautiously.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Acnecide 5% Wash Gel is a topical product and is not known to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. No special precautions are required in this regard.
⸻
