Viscotears Liquid Gel is a soothing eye gel that acts as artificial tears to relieve dryness, irritation, and discomfort caused by dry eye conditions, including keratoconjunctivitis sicca. It is suitable for adults and is available without a prescription.

How It Works

The active ingredient, carbomer, forms a thin, lubricating film over the surface of the eye, mimicking the effect of natural tears. This protective film helps to moisturise and soothe the eye, reducing dryness and discomfort. Because of its gel-like consistency, Viscotears stays in contact with the eye for longer than standard eye drops, providing extended relief.

Directions for Use

Apply one drop into the affected eye(s) three to four times daily, or as directed by your doctor. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid, and squeeze one drop into the space between the eyelid and the eye. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the gel and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Possible Side Effects

• Temporary blurred vision immediately after application
• Mild stinging or burning sensation upon application
• Eye irritation or redness
• Sticky or crusting sensation around the eyelids

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

• People who are allergic to carbomer or any other ingredient in the gel
• Anyone who has had a known hypersensitivity reaction to similar eye preparations
• This product is not recommended for use in children unless specifically advised by a doctor

Interactions

Viscotears Liquid Gel is not known to interact significantly with other medicines. However, if you are using other eye drops or eye preparations at the same time, leave a gap of at least 5 minutes between applications, and always apply Viscotears last. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Viscotears Liquid Gel is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as it acts locally on the eye and is not expected to be absorbed into the bloodstream in significant amounts. Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Viscotears Liquid Gel and alcohol. This eye gel is applied directly to the eye and is not absorbed into the bloodstream in a meaningful way, so alcohol consumption is not expected to affect its safety or effectiveness.

Driving and Operating Machinery

Viscotears Liquid Gel may cause temporary blurred vision immediately after application. You should wait until your vision is completely clear before driving or operating machinery. Do not drive or use tools or machines if your vision is affected after applying the gel.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Once opened, the tube should be discarded four weeks after first use, even if some gel remains. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
