Description
Treathay Fexofenadine 120mg – 10 Tablets
Treathay Fexofenadine 120mg Tablets are a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) in adults and children aged 12 and over. They help ease symptoms such as sneezing, a runny or itchy nose, and itchy, watery, or red eyes.
⸻
How It Works
Fexofenadine hydrochloride works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body. Histamine is a natural chemical released during an allergic reaction that causes symptoms like sneezing and itching. By blocking histamine from binding to its receptors, fexofenadine reduces these allergic symptoms without causing the drowsiness often associated with older antihistamines.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over should take one 120mg tablet once daily, swallowed whole with water. It is best taken on an empty stomach, as food — particularly fruit juice — may reduce how well the medicine is absorbed. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Fexofenadine hydrochloride 120mg per tablet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, fexofenadine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Common side effects may include:
• Headache
• Drowsiness (although this is less common than with older antihistamines)
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Feeling tired or weak
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not take this medicine if:
• You are allergic to fexofenadine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients
• You are under 12 years of age
• You have severe kidney problems (unless advised by a doctor)
• You have been told by a doctor to avoid certain ingredients listed in the formulation
⸻
Interactions
Fexofenadine may interact with certain medicines and foods. In particular:
• Antacids containing aluminium or magnesium hydroxide (e.g. some indigestion remedies) can reduce the absorption of fexofenadine — leave at least 2 hours between taking them
• Large quantities of fruit juice (particularly grapefruit, apple, or orange juice) may reduce the effectiveness of this medicine — take with water instead
• Some antibiotics (such as erythromycin) and antifungals (such as ketoconazole) may increase fexofenadine levels in the blood
Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited data on the safety of fexofenadine during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless clearly necessary, and it may pass into breast milk. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
Although fexofenadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine, caution is still advised when drinking alcohol, as it may enhance any drowsiness that does occur. There is no absolute contraindication, but it is sensible to be cautious, particularly if you notice any sedative effects from this medicine.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Fexofenadine is classified as a non-drowsy antihistamine and is generally considered safe for driving. However, a small number of people may still experience drowsiness or dizziness. You should check how this medicine affects you before driving or operating heavy machinery.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging until use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
