Description
TCP Liquid Antiseptic Original – 50ml
TCP Liquid Antiseptic Original is a well-known antiseptic solution used to help relieve discomfort and reduce the risk of infection. It can be used both internally (e.g. for sore throats and mouth ulcers) and externally (e.g. for minor cuts, grazes, spots, and boils).
⸻
How It Works
TCP contains halogenated phenols, including phenol and halogenated phenol derivatives, which work by killing bacteria and other germs on contact. This antiseptic action helps prevent infection in minor wounds and soothes irritated tissue in the mouth and throat.
⸻
Directions for Use
For sore throats and mouth use (adults and children aged 6 and over): Dilute one part TCP with five parts warm water and use as a gargle or mouthwash. Do not swallow. Repeat up to three times daily as needed.
For external skin use (adults and children aged 6 and over): Apply undiluted directly to spots, boils, or minor skin blemishes. For minor cuts, grazes, or abrasions, dilute one part TCP with one part water before applying.
TCP is not recommended for children under 6 years of age unless directed by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Phenol 0.175% w/v
• Halogenated phenols (including chlorinated and iodinated phenols) — total phenol content approximately 0.68% w/v
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Skin irritation or redness at the site of application
• Burning or stinging sensation in the mouth or throat when used as a gargle
• Allergic skin reactions such as rash or itching (uncommon)
• Irritation to sensitive or broken skin if used undiluted in vulnerable areas
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻

• People with a known allergy to phenol, halogenated phenols, or any other ingredient in TCP
• Children under 6 years of age (unless advised by a doctor)
• Do not use in or near the eyes
• Do not swallow the liquid
• Do not use on large areas of broken or damaged skin without medical advice
⸻
Interactions
TCP Liquid Antiseptic is applied topically or used as a gargle and is not significantly absorbed into the body in normal use, so clinically significant drug interactions are unlikely. However, you should avoid using TCP alongside other antiseptic preparations on the same area of skin without guidance.
