Senokot 7.5mg Adult – 20 Tablets
Senokot 7.5mg Adult Tablets are a gentle, plant-based laxative used to relieve constipation in adults and children aged 12 years and over. They contain senna, a natural ingredient derived from the senna plant, which helps to restore regular bowel movements.
⸻
How It Works
Senna belongs to a group of medicines called stimulant laxatives. It works by stimulating the muscles in the walls of your bowel, encouraging them to contract and move stools through your digestive system more easily. You can typically expect a bowel movement within 8 to 12 hours of taking the tablets.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: take 2 tablets at bedtime. If needed, this dose may be increased to a maximum of 4 tablets at bedtime. Do not exceed 4 tablets in 24 hours. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Senokot tablets are not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Sennoside B (as senna fruit dry extract) 7.5mg per tablet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Abdominal cramps or discomfort
• Diarrhoea
• Nausea
• Discolouration of the urine (may turn yellow-brown or pink — this is harmless)
• Skin reactions such as rash or hives (rare)
• With prolonged use: electrolyte imbalance or dependence on laxatives
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 12 years of age
• People with a known allergy to senna or any other ingredient in this product
• People with intestinal blockage (ileus) or suspected bowel obstruction
• People with appendicitis or inflammatory bowel conditions such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
• People with severe abdominal pain of unknown cause
• People with severe dehydration
⸻
Interactions
Senokot tablets may interact with certain medicines, including diuretics (water tablets) and medicines for the heart such as digoxin, as senna can affect electrolyte levels — particularly potassium. Long-term use alongside other laxatives may increase the risk of side effects. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Senna should generally be avoided during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester, and is not recommended for use in breastfeeding mothers as small amounts of sennosides may pass into breast milk. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known direct interaction between senna and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation. It is advisable to drink plenty of water while taking this medicine and to consume alcohol in moderation.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Senokot tablets are not known to cause drowsiness and are not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience significant abdominal discomfort or feel unwell after taking this medicine, use caution until you feel better.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
