Savlon Antiseptic Cream is a trusted first aid cream used to help prevent infection in minor skin injuries. It is suitable for treating cuts, grazes, insect bites and stings, blisters, minor burns, spots, sore or chapped skin, and mild sunburn.

How It Works

Savlon Antiseptic Cream contains two active ingredients — cetrimide and chlorhexidine digluconate — which work together to kill bacteria and other germs on the skin. Cetrimide acts as a cleansing agent that disrupts the outer layer of bacteria, while chlorhexidine digluconate helps stop bacteria from growing and spreading, reducing the risk of infection in minor wounds.

Directions for Use

For adults and children, clean the affected area thoroughly before applying a small amount of Savlon Antiseptic Cream directly to the skin. Apply gently and allow the cream to absorb; it may be covered with a sterile dressing if needed. The cream can be applied up to three times a day, or as directed. It is intended for external use on the skin only — do not swallow or apply inside the mouth, eyes, or ears. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Possible Side Effects

Savlon Antiseptic Cream is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience:
• Skin irritation or redness at the site of application

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

• People with a known allergy to cetrimide, chlorhexidine, or any other ingredient in the cream
• Do not use on large open wounds, deep puncture wounds, or severe burns — seek medical attention for these
• Do not use inside the ear canal, as chlorhexidine can be harmful to the inner ear
• Do not apply to the eyes or mucous membranes
• Not recommended for use on newborns without medical advice

Interactions

Savlon Antiseptic Cream is applied topically to the skin, so significant interactions with other medicines are unlikely. However, chlorhexidine can be inactivated by certain soaps, anionic agents, and some other topical products, so avoid applying other creams or ointments to the same area at the same time unless advised to do so. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Savlon Antiseptic Cream is applied to the skin and is not expected to pose a significant risk during pregnancy or breastfeeding when used as directed on small areas of skin. However, as a precaution, avoid applying the cream to areas of the breast that could come into contact with a baby during breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Savlon Antiseptic Cream and alcohol. As this product is applied topically to the skin and is not taken orally, alcohol consumption does not affect how this medicine works.

Driving and Operating Machinery

Savlon Antiseptic Cream is applied externally to the skin and is not known to cause drowsiness or affect concentration. It is not expected to have any effect on your ability to drive or operate machinery.

Storage

Store Savlon Antiseptic Cream below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the cap tightly closed when not in use to prevent the cream from drying out. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
