Description
Pollenase 50mcg Hayfever Nasal Spray – 100 Sprays
Pollenase Hayfever Nasal Spray contains beclometasone dipropionate 50mcg per spray, a corticosteroid medicine used to relieve the nasal symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) in adults and children aged 18 and over. It helps to reduce inflammation inside the nose, easing symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and a blocked or runny nose.
⸻
How It Works
Beclometasone dipropionate is a corticosteroid (steroid) that works by reducing inflammation in the lining of the nose. When you are exposed to pollen, your immune system triggers an inflammatory response — beclometasone helps to calm this response, reducing swelling, congestion, and irritation in the nasal passages. It works best when used regularly, and you may not feel the full benefit until a few days after starting treatment.
⸻
Directions for Use
Pollenase Nasal Spray is for use in adults aged 18 years and over only. The usual dose is two sprays into each nostril twice a day (morning and evening), or one spray into each nostril up to four times a day. The maximum dose is 400mcg (8 sprays) per day. Once symptoms are controlled, you may be able to reduce the dose to one spray in each nostril twice daily. Do not exceed the stated dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Beclometasone dipropionate 50mcg per actuation (spray)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, Pollenase can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects may include:
• Dryness or irritation inside the nose
• Sneezing immediately after use
• An unpleasant taste or smell
• Nosebleeds or blood-stained mucus
• Headache
• Nasal crusting
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not use Pollenase Nasal Spray if:
• You are allergic to beclometasone dipropionate or any other ingredient in this product
• You are under 18 years of age
• You have a current infection of the nose or sinuses that has not been treated
• You have recently had surgery on or around your nose (until fully healed)
• You have a perforated nasal septum
⸻
Interactions
Pollenase Nasal Spray is unlikely to interact with most other medicines when used as directed, as very little of the medicine is absorbed into the bloodstream. However, if you are taking other corticosteroids (such as steroid inhalers, tablets, creams, or other nasal sprays), the combined effect may increase the risk of side effects. Medicines that affect how the body processes corticosteroids, such as ritonavir or ketoconazole, may increase the levels of beclometasone in your body. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of beclometasone nasal spray in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. As with all medicines during pregnancy or breastfeeding, it is important to seek guidance before use. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Pollenase Nasal Spray and alcohol. This medicine is applied directly to the nose and is not taken orally, so alcohol is not expected to affect how it works. However, if you have any concerns, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Pollenase Nasal Spray is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Unlike some antihistamine-based hay fever treatments, beclometasone nasal spray does not cause drowsiness. If you experience any unexpected dizziness or visual disturbances, avoid driving until these have resolved.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not freeze. Store the bottle upright when not in use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
