Description
Pirinase Allergy Nasal Spray – 120 Dose
Pirinase Allergy Nasal Spray is a once-daily nasal spray used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and year-round nasal allergies in adults and children aged 18 and over. It contains fluticasone propionate, a corticosteroid that helps to clear a blocked or runny nose, reduce sneezing, and ease itchy, watery eyes.
⸻
How It Works
Fluticasone propionate is a type of corticosteroid (steroid) that works by reducing inflammation in the lining of the nose. When you breathe in allergens such as pollen, your immune system can overreact and cause swelling and irritation — fluticasone helps to calm this response, relieving symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and an itchy or runny nose. It is most effective when used regularly, and full benefit may not be felt until several days of consistent use.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults aged 18 and over: spray 2 sprays into each nostril once daily (preferably in the morning). Once symptoms are under control, the dose may be reduced to 1 spray in each nostril once daily. The maximum dose is 2 sprays in each nostril per day. Shake the bottle gently before use and prime the pump before using for the first time. Pirinase Allergy Nasal Spray is not recommended for children under 18 — a doctor should be consulted for younger patients. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻

⸻
Possible Side Effects

• Nosebleeds or bleeding from the nose
• Dryness or irritation of the nose and throat
• Headache
• Rarely, nasal septum perforation (a hole in the wall between the nostrils)
• Rarely, raised pressure in the eye (glaucoma) or cataracts with prolonged use
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 18 years of age (without medical supervision)
• Anyone with a known allergy to fluticasone propionate or any other ingredient in the spray
• People who have recently had nasal surgery or a nasal injury (until fully healed)
• Those with untreated nasal or sinus infections
⸻
Interactions
Fluticasone propionate may interact with certain medicines, particularly those that inhibit the enzyme CYP3A4, such as ritonavir and ketoconazole — these can increase the level of fluticasone in the body and may increase the risk of side effects. Other corticosteroids (including creams, inhalers, or tablets) used at the same time may also add to the overall steroid dose received by the body. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of fluticasone propionate nasal spray during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. It should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if the benefit to the mother is considered to outweigh any potential risk to the baby. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There are no known interactions between Pirinase Allergy Nasal Spray and alcohol. However, it is always sensible to drink alcohol responsibly, particularly if you are managing an ongoing health condition.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Pirinase Allergy Nasal Spray is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Unlike some antihistamine tablets used for hay fever, fluticasone propionate does not cause drowsiness.
⸻
